Hi everyone! I'm a new member and wanted to say hello to everyone. 🙂 All your posts and threads have been super helpful during my application process, so thanks!

I'm a post bac student, and thank goodness, just completed 10+ applications last week for AuD. Since I had to take my GRE 12/28/10 and meet the deadlines of these schools with so many SOPs.. I literally went thru xxxx. Anyhow, I'm done and finally breathing here. 🙂

Some of the schools I applied include: UI, Rush, CMU, UB, Northwestern, UW(washington), WUSTL, SDSU, ASU to name a few. So, if you guys have any insight to share, I'd appreciate it much.

Have a great wednesday!

Welcome!

I just finished my apps. so I can relate, although I took my GRE in October so I probably had an easier time of it. I'm a postbac at UW Seattle right now so if you have any questions about that program, I'd be happy to let you know.

Good Luck Cali... I know we all have our fingers crossed right now 🙂

Hi CaliAud! Welcome!! 🙂

It's true...we've all got our fingers crossed now. I applied to a few programs in the southeast and one in Arizona. Hopefully we'll hear something soon!

I wish everyone the best of luck! 🙂

Thanks everyone! 🙂 All fingers crossed!

@Kissfist: thanks for your kind offer! I'm glad you're a postbac there because UW is actually one of my top choices. Besides the awesome AuD program, I heard it's beautiful up there. How do you like the school and students? Are you also applying to UW for AuD?

I did apply to UW, the program here is excellent. I'm mainly interested in working in the area of aural rehabilitation so Seattle is ideal for me since I also study ASL and the Deaf culture here is great. The faculty are probably the main draw. There are very diverse research interests here and I've never heard any of the Aud. students complaining about nepotism or any other unethical behavior (which per this message board, I gather can be a problem). There are some downsides to the program, namely the cost. It is very expensive for out of state students and scholarships are kind of rare. Admissions is also kinda tough. They are ranked third and get more than 80 applicants on average for 10-12 spots. The students here I've met are really bright. I'm the only one in my post-bac cohort applying for audiology and I only know 4-5 others who are applying to Aud.

I applied to 5 schools and now that the deadlines are passed, I'm starting to feel like I should have done more. Que sera sera.

@Kissfist: yeah, I heard of its flawless reputation in terms of faculty members, location and all, thus one of my top choices.

Let's all hope for the best! 🙂

I applied to 3 schools.... you guys are making me feel bad.... how much money did you spend on applications!!! zillions of dollars!! wow i'm nervous now

@Dustbug10: lol! CaliAud and SoCalAud huh? I'm sure the time will come. 🙂

@AuDMunchkin: In case you're really curious, I did spend over $2500. Don't feel bad tho, I applied to so many because I wasn't exactly confident with what I had to offer. I'm sure you'll be fine. 🙂 :xf:

I wouldn't be concerned with applying to only 3. I only had to pay to send the GRE report to one school so mine were less than a hundred a school. I ended up applying to 5 schools because those were the only programs/cities that I loved. I really would rather beef up my application and wait a year than live for three years in a city that I hated. I really didn't even have a number school until recently because I really liked all the programs I applied to.

@SoCalAud: Hi! BFF (I'm sure this will make DustBug10 happy!) Super happy to meet someone from the same town.

I definitely agree with kissfist, but initially, I had to apply all 10+ schools, b/c my october GRE scores(first test) was way!!! under 1000. In my defense, I wasn't prepared: solved only 1/2 of the quant. Qs. I FREAKED out with the test result and I was literally suicidal...) Luckily I geared up and did much, much better on the second one. Still, I just couldnt' afford to take a chance of not getting in this year, having to wait around for another round.
Well, that's my story, and good nite ya'll and wish me luck! (some screening phone interview tomorrow morning...😱 ahh!)

CaliAud, did you attend the SDSU Open House last November (2010)?

If you don't mind me asking, which school is your first choice? Some of the schools that you applied to are the schools I will be considering next year.

@SoCalAud: I did not attend the SDSU open house last year( I was caught up with my GRE at that time, plus didn't even know it was held 😛).

I don't mind you asking about my first choice but I have too many first choices including UI, Northwestern, WUSTL, Rush, UW to name a few. They're all very unique and attractive in their own ways.

How about you? Do you have the ONE school you really want to go to?

 I saw the username and had to double check mine. That's funny.

Hi CaliAud!

I totally though that CaliAud was you lol

If anyone wants to know more about U of Az let me know 🙂

Ahahaha! I apologize for my lack of creativity(username), and the confusion as a result.

@AUDball: Hi, I did also apply for U of AZ so I'm a little curious about what the procedures were AFTER the application was submitted. Did they ask you for an interview or a campus visit? When did you actually hear back?
Thanks!

LOL Well to be honest, I was waitlisted lol. I know for a fact that they had around 80 applicants and I believe they are accepting 12. They will also have a waitlist. The year I entered there were 4 people on the waitlisted and I was number 4 lol. I got my initial letter saying I was waitlisted some time either in Feb or March I believe. Then I called back at the end of March and asked if they had heard anymore about my application and they told me that had just sent my letter out and I was accepted. 😀 I never did an interview, but the Oct before my acceptance, I went to visit the department and meet with one of the professors. It is not required but I highly encourage visiting the campus before accepting their offer. I can tell you that all their students are given a very generous financial aid package.

LOL!! Thank you for being so honest AUDball! I was dying reading your reply, you are hilariuos! 🙂

Anyhow, do you think it's too late to make an appointment for a campus visit? I bet they're super busy going through the applications.. Well, it's good to know that they offer a generous aid, because it can be an important factor in choosing the school later. Hopefully:xf:, I'll have a couple of choices to choose from.

hehe Thanks! No its def not too late to get a tour. Its just nice getting a sense of the faculty and students prior to attending. 2 things to know about UA--1-we are heavily research based....where some schools are highly focused on medical audiology, UA is focused on research and evidence based practice. 2-clinically, we focus a ton of effort on counseling and rehabilitation classes--Clinically I have had experience in adults and peds evaluations; fitting HAs on adults; balance testing; APD testing; and CI programming experience with both Advanced Bionics and Cochlear Corp.; we have students teach our Living With Hearing Loss classes as well and really focus on strategies for living with a hearing loss

Awesome info! I did hear that UA heavily focuses on research from this one young audiologist(at my professors private practice) from UA. Actually, that was the first thing he mentioned about UA, lol!

So this is your second year? How was the workload during the first semester/quarter? By skimming thru some of the curriculums, it seems like they bombard you with 6-7 classes/semester. What's up with that!?
