Hello, Nathaniel: Obama welcomes Mr Ayers to DC

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thank you for posting this. I've been following Nathaniel's amazing story since Steve Lopez first started writing about him 5 years ago in the LA Times. For me, he represents so much of what we do and why we do it--the tragedy of mental illness derailing a talented young person; the inadequacy of our system that leaves so many homeless, penniless, and severely ill; and the extraordinary potential for friendship, creativity, and determination to help create connection and meaning in a life in spite of, or perhaps because of, mental illness.
