Pick up a baby miller and start cranken (Basics of Anesthesia). Carrying around a handbook in the OR's isn't a bad idea either (barash, mgh, current clinical stratagies). Anesthesia Secrets is a pretty good book as well for on the fly reading. Think about anesthetic plans available/major complications for the cases you will be working on for the day. For example, on your first neuro case read up on the neuro section in baby miller the day before and you will definitely look like you want to be there. Ask about regional vs mac vs general. Why the hell use an LMA (or why the hell not)? You get the picture.

Stick around late, chat with the attendings, make friends with the residents, and if you really care take a call. Most likely you'll be given the opportunity to guide the case with close supervision. I took one and thats what happened. Had a blast.

Thats more than enough,
Best o' luck.

Agree with the above post. Baby Miller is what I used, and I feel like it did the trick. 😉

is there a First Aid for Anesth for those high yield pimp questions? I always liked the first aid series because it helps to identify very very important topics.

but i agree, if anesthesiology is something that one wants to go into they should buy/read whatever textbook is the must have.
