Hi everyone!

I'm new to these forums. My name is Lauren and I'm going to be starting my first pre-med year at University of Texas at Arlington this fall and I am very excited!

I'm not really your typical college student. I am 24 years old, and am just starting all of this. Money for school was difficult to obtain, so I had to wait till 24 in order to be independent and get money for school.

Anyways, I can't wait to start commiserating with all of you, and getting to rant about classes and stresses, as well as ask questions. 🙂

No worries I was 24 when I went back to school and now at 28 I'm graduating in a couple of months and submitting my app to med school in a month. Totally been worth it 🙂

Edit: Be glad your from Texas b/c it sounds like you guys have it pretty good with med schools

Welcome! Please check out the nontraditional forum which is always chock-full of students who haven't taken a straight path to medical school:

Good luck! 🙂

I'm glad to see someone else who had the same situation! Good luck with the application process!

Why is that?

Why is that?

Because you're making your identity very visible. There is usually a degree of anonymity on internet forums. It looks like you made a picture of yourself as your avatar, too.

I'll take it off then. Didn't realize it was that big of an issue on a forum like this.

Not necessarily an issue, but people value their anonymity, especially since you might eventually get linked to your application down the road. It has something to do with general neuroticism I'm sure.

Anyway, good luck at UTA. I have a few friends that go there since I'm from the Dallas area.

EDIT: I want to credit my fellow pharmer Sparda for this image. I stole it- I thought it was hilarious.

It's not really an issue. Some of us aren't exactly private about our identities and have had no problems at all. I'm surprised I haven't unexpectedly had people drop by my house or calling me yet. If you want to post a picture of yourself, go ahead. It's not going to cause you grief. I imagine the BS flag actually had zero to do with what you've posted and everything to do with the fact that you're sure to see some fairly outrageous posts around.

Oh, and welcome to SDN. 🙂

That makes more sense, yeah.

I've noticed quite a few people here from Texas, which helps. 🙂

Thanks! I've been reading around since I joined and yeah, I've seen some pretty interesting replies and posts, but I've been on forums before, and that's really not abnormal on the internet.

Thanks! I've heard a lot of good things about the school myself.
