hi everyone, I need some advice on an MCAT retake. My past scores include:
4/9/11--> 25Q (12 PS, 7 VR, 6 BS) 😡
6/17/10 --> 20Q (9 PS, 6 VR, 5 BS)
3.7 overall gpa
3.63 science gpa
3 years of research
Volunteering hours and shadowing
Extracurriculars
I am biology major at a small college. I am not really understanding how I am scoring so low on the biology section. I took all the AAMC exams (got a 28 average, and 10s on every bio sections). In preparation, I took all the TPR exams as well as most of the passages in TBR's biology & physics books. I used EK for all sections for content review. I also did all the EK 101 series for verbal. Verbal I understand would be my challenge, however, I didn't know Bio would be so low.
On my test day (4/9/11) there was a concert outside my prometric test center during my Bio section 😕 which I feel might have had an impact on my biology score. I used the headphones provided, however, I could still hear the singing and music. I was going to void, but i felt good about my other sections so I decided to score. Bad idea on my part. Also, there was 3 passages on orgo, which i felt kinda surprised with. I haven't taken orgo in over 2 years and this might have contributed to the low score.
My question is how can I improve both my verbal and biology? I am rescheduled for 7/16/11 and wish to improve to a possible 10 on BS & 8 on VR. My target score is anything at or above a 30.
I am just worried about taking this beast of a test for a third time and its impact on medical school decision making . I was thinking of sending my primary app in on June 1st (with the indication that I am going to retake) and applying to a couple of schools and then waiting for the MCAT score to come back in August. If my score is good then I could add more schools to the list. What do you guys think? Should I be alright for this app cycle? Will I still have a chance?
As for now, I was thinking that the DO path might be a good idea as well. But I want to retake the MCAT again for my own sake to have a chance at the MD schools. I would appreciate any and all advice, thanks
