july 12th mcat , is it late for the TMDSAS cycle?

Hey everyone,


I’m applying through TMDSAS this cycle and currently planning to take my MCAT on July 12, 2025. I’ve been feeling a little anxious about the timing — is that too late to be considered on time for Texas schools?


For context:

• My science GPA is 3.1 after completing my post-bacc, but I’ve completed 35 post-bacc credits with a 4.0 (strong upward trend).
• My full-length practice exams have been in the 510–512 range, but I’m aiming for a 520 on test day.
• I plan to submit my primary application in early June, well before my MCAT score comes back.

I just want to make sure I’m not hurting my chances by testing mid-July. I know TMDSAS lets you apply without an MCAT and update scores later, but I’d appreciate any advice or reassurance from those who’ve been through this or are in the same boat!

Because of the way TMDSAS has stressed applying on time, in the early months of the app cycle, more than 70% of applicants are complete before the end of July.
Being complete in August (when your MCAT score comes out) will leave you in the 20% or so who submit later.
If you truly need that time to study and bring up your MCAT score, then you need that time.

We have posted the 2025-2026 secondary essays for most of the TMDSAS schools by now.
You can use your non-studying time before your score comes back to pre-write the secondary essays, and have them ready to submit as soon as your score is in. This will help you get your app reviewed at your schools as soon as is possible for your situation.

And yes, even if you submitted your primary in June without an MCAT score, the admissions committee will not take the time to do a full reading of your app until you have a score, so I don't think you should try to submit secondary essays now.

B) if your new score is higher, send a one or two sentence email to all your schools directly to let them know a new score is coming in. Put your name and “new MCAT score” or something like that in the email subject line.
