Hi Everyone I needed some help and insight. I'm currently undecided but I'm really thinking of going into pharmacy. I'm currently attending St.Johns University. I'm not in their pharmacy I know that they do have a pharmacy program but I'm not to interested in their school since it was my safety and didn't get accepted into my reaches. Anyway I wanted to know what I should do in my situation because I really want to transfer ASAP. I just dont like commuting and the school doesn't really interest me that much. I'm currently taking Philosophy,Theology,Alegbra,Critical Thinkings Skills,College Experience and Speech Class. I wanted to know what I should take next semester to start getting ready for Pharmacy and should I stay at st.johns for 2 years then transfer to a pharmacy school or should I transfer to like rutgers or ohio state sophomore year and do undergraduate their then apply for their pharmacy program?? Also what are my chances on fininishing in 6 years if I already didn't have one prepharmacy semester would I have to make it up in summer or winter semester?

go at any pharmacy program's website and look at their pre-pharmacy courses to get an idea of what classes you need to take.

you will really need to bust your ass to finish in 6 years if you haven't had a science class yet
go look at a prereqs list for the schools you want to apply to and just start taking classes, the prereqs should be very similiar

Ender,
Do you go to the Tulsa or OKC campus? I have a friend that attends the Tulsa campus and was just wondering.....

Is St. Johns a community college? Some Pharmacy programs will not take pre-reqs from a community college. Each Pharmacy school is different. If it's a four year college I would just finish up all my pre-reqs there, If you can stand the school. Why relocate if you don't have too! Make sure you do really well in your pre-reqs, and take full loads of classes. If you can, try to get a Pharmacy tech job, Pharmacy experience helps you get in, and find time for volunteer activites. Always have a plan B just in case you don't get in, many pre-pharm students get 4 yr degrees in chemistry, or biology or some other field.

For Pharmacy info go to the Pharmcas website and look under "school pages"

Hey, I attend St. John's too, and currently in a somewhat similar situation, but I'm a senior. I have two suggestions. One, you can look into transferring to Long Island University (the Brooklyn campus) for next semester because they also have a pharmacy program where you can start taking the pre-reqs, stay there, apply and get accepted into their pharm school. (They also have a six-year program like St. John's). But, it would entail you travelling to Brooklyn and I don't know if you would be too fond of that. So, in that case maybe you should finish your year at St. John's by finishing those classes up you are currently enrolled in and register for these classes next semester (at St. John's): Bio I/Lab, Chem I/Lab & Recitation and Cal I (some pharm schools prefer it to be 4credits so make sure you enroll for a Cal class that has 4 credits) (if they are offered, I am not too sure they are offered next semester because they are in progress now) do well in these classes and take Bio II/Lab and ChemII/Lab over the summer so that way you are all caught up and transfer to where ever you want to go and finish you pre-reqs there. OR...my other suggestion would be sticking it out at St. John's, get all the pre-reqs done for the pharm schools you wish to apply to, get your bachelor's (maybe like someone previously mentioned, major in bio or chem?) and apply after you graduate. That's what I'm going to be doing. Good luck and I hope you come to a decision.

Hey JCASH,
I think it would be very helpful for you to take precal before you take Cal I. As for Rutgers, I think it's a six year program similar to St. John's, so I'm not sure they would accept you as a transfer student into the program with college credit already. I think you should contact them asap and find out. As for St. John's, it's impossible to get into their pharm. school if you are an undergrad. already. Believe me, I've tried!! They only accept those incoming freshmen who applied for the program. Meaning, when you applied to St. John's you could have checked you were applying for admittance into their pharmacy program. Once accepted, you are a pharmacy student for the next 6 years at St. John's. Regardless if you are a freshmen now, they will not accept you into the program because all seats are filled and they do not keep empty seats for transfers, even for current St. John's students! I learned that the hard way!! So if you find it helpful, talk all this over with your freshmen advisor and maybe he/she can help you see some options that are available to you and make sure to contact rutgers and speak with a rep. from their pharm school and explain them your situation. Hope everything works out.

Rutgers is also very hard to transfer into - even if you're in their undergrad school... its mainly b/c they have too many students already - and this pre-pharm class is the biggest ever so its not looking good. I agree with FaB, you should transfer into LIU and take pre-pharms there, maybe its easier to get in since you're applying within - if not you always have the option of getting all the pre-reqs in at st. johns... do very very well... and applying to any 2 + 4 pharmacy programs.

kinda tall guy with blonde hair?
yeah I know who he is, but he's kinda quiet, doesn't really hang out with my group

Yeah, that's him. He's really quiet and reserved, but he's a cool guy once you get to know him.

How well do you "know" him? You know.. "know" in biblical term has a whole different meaning....:meanie:

To the Original Poster, did you ask yourself what it is "you" want to do?

What I really want to do is transfer out of st.johns anyway. Go to a school with pharmacy take all my pre-pharm their. Then go to their pharmacy school starting my junior year and finish by atleast by the winter of 2012. But I dont know if that's realistic and I for those that dont know st.johns is in NY so I dont want to go to california either unless that was my only option. I'm looking for a school that's driveable farthest I'd go is 8 hours driving. Also I dont know if pharmacy is for me. Like I like high school biology I did okay in it not exceptionally but chemistry I did medicore in. Plus I'm a procrastinator but I'm starting to change that now in college. Like honestly how much work a night does one do when studying pharmacy? Cause I think I could handle 3-4 hours out of class studying but if it's more than that a day then I dont know if I could handle that. Also are pharmacy majors really social or do they really have to spend their weekends studying. Thanks for anyone who can help me. I'm a high school mess up trying to fix his ways. And find a job that's makes him happy, his parents happy and help pay off school loans cause i'm going be in debt

what school would be the best school to finish up my prereqs and apply within the school???
