Hi Everyone.
Perhaps I could have your help in picking an online class for Spring 2007. It's gotta be online because I work and am studying for the DAT. I would like an opinion on what seems more beneficial AND interesting as a non-science elective to supplement my D-school academic preparation. Pretend you are an adcom. Here are the two options:
First Choice: Editing- "THE FOCUS OF THE COURSE IS ON THE BASICS OF EFFECTIVE NEWS EDITING, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, COMPELLING PRESENTATION OF IDEAS, LANGUAGE SKILLS, SPELLING, GRAMMAR, STANDARD JOURNALISTIC STYLE AND USAGE...AND ELECTRONIC EDITING, PAGE LAYOUT AND DESIGN."
Second Choice: Marketing- "STUDY OF PRESENT-DAY MARKETING SYSTEM FROM A MANAGERIAL POINT OF VIEW. SUBJECTS COVERED INCLUDE PRODUCTS, CONSUMERS, PROMOTION, CHANNELS OF DISTRIBUTION, MARKET RESEARCH, PRICING, MARKETING, FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS, MARKETING LAW AND INTERNATIONAL MARKETING."
Editing appeals to me way more, but I'm afraid it will look totally dopey on my application. I like that I get to organize written and visual materials for maximum impact. However, it's marketing that is discussed as a possible business class on a few dental school sites for it's direct application to the business of dentistry, while editing is not, but I couldn't be less interested in it. It just totally doesn't appeal to me. What do you think? Thanks in advance.
