I'm an M4 and still going full steam ahead with rotations. I'm doing a rotation with the program director of the field that I'm going into. I would love to stay at my home institution, and so I do want to impress her even if she's likely already ranked me.

Here's where I have anxiety:

I have a doctor's appt that will be difficult for me to reschedule since it took a lot of work for me to get in with this doctor (I have a particular medical condition where I see a doctor every few months). I will need to leave early the second day of the rotation and have to ask the program director who is also the course director if it's okay for me to go early for my doctor's appt.

I don't know why but this is causing me a lot of anxiety. I don't know if it's okay to ask to leave early for my doctor's appt, even though it's only a one time thing. I feel like she will think I'm not serious or something, or she will have wanted more or a heads up (since the appt is on the second day of the rotation). Also this is a clinic rotation if that helps. Help!

Should I cancel my appt given that she's the program director and asking to leave early one day for a doctor's appt might annoy her?

If I were you, I wouldn't cancel my appointment. I'm sure the PD would understand and presumably you could provide documentation that you have a legitimate reason to leave early for your appointment. Just get a note/certificate from your doctor and present that to the PD. They don't have to go into specifics just that you had an appointment that day. You could even test the waters by sending an e-mail before the rotation: just say what you said here - the appointment was hard to get, unfortunately it's on the second day of the rotation, and go from there with what she/he says.

Okay, so you don't think this would reflect negatively on me? Thank you.

Why do you think it would reflect poorly on you that you have a doctor's appointment to go to and could probably provide documentation of that to the PD? They'd understand.

It would reflect poorly if you blew off the rotation for a BS reason, like "I have tickets to opening day baseball, so I'm going to have to miss the second day."

It really shouldn't be a problem to get a few hours off early to go to a much-needed doctor's appointment, and I'm sorry you've been put in the position by prior experience where you feel like you're justified in thinking leaving early for a legitimate reason reflects poorly on you.

I'm assuming this appt is for some neurotic form of anxiety because who cares if the medical student misses a day. If she ranked you she's stuck with you at this point.

Lol it wouldn't even be a day, just have to leave the rotation at 1:30. Yes I do have anxiety, especially about my rotations. Yeah I guess she would be stuck with me, but she could change my ranking at this point right?

Oh wow...
I found the site really confusing, it said feb 21 was deadline for applicant reversion whatever that means. I'll take your word for it though
