For those that aced [99%] the board or done well... what book would you recommend to read...

1. Big Robbins
2. Medium Robbins
3. Baby Robbins

I am currently reading the Medium Robbins cover-to-cover [YES, each chapter at least 3 times] and plan to "memorize" Baby Robbins, RR by G and BRS during one year that I plan to take off.

But yea, I am very confused on what I should do because I am the only one in my class reading the Medium Robbins while everyone else is just doing either BRS, Baby Robbins or the RR by G and are able to get A in class.

What should I do guys/girls.... What should I do inorder to ACE the board?

Thank you all for your advice...

i think the "teenage" book is a good choice. if it would have came out earlier i would have bought it. personally, i always read the big book, but my first 2 years were pbl. i read the big book, goljan's path rapid review, and brs flashcards, oh and robbins question book. that worked well for pbl and the boards. hope that helps.

troll. The "3 times" gives it away. Plus you shamelessly are trying to promote your inferior website.

I don't have any advice in terms of deciding between the different Robbins because even I think the baby Robbins is too much text on 1 page but you can't go wrong with Goljan. He has just the right amount of information that you need to master your path courses and step 1.

BTW, the 99 that you're referring to isn't a percentile. Anybody who makes >235 gets a 99.

Attending a medical school in the caribbeans is hard becuase majority of the professors here lack resources. Some of them not sure what is tested on Step 1 and some of them just use BRS/Kaplan to teach.

Thank Obiwan... I have heard so many great info about Goljan. It seems Goljan is much better than BRS. So I guess I will really go ahead and memorize that book for the year I take off. But right now, I think I am still going to stick to reading the Medium Robbins becuase so many people I see on here are reading it unlike students in my class.

BTW... A friend of mine got a 233/97 I thought 99 is like from 236 or above...

Not necessarily... I read the regular Robbins 3 times cover to cover, minus a few chapters (<5), but that was during class, not while studying for step 1, but that's how I study. Read + annotate, reread, read fast before the exam.

BIg robbins = good doorstopper
Medium robbins = make the table even by propping up a leg.

Baby robbins = this porridge tastes just right

You need to look at your priorities. No offense, but just based on the language of your message(s) it looks like English isn't your first language (nothing against that), so it's good that you're reading medium instead of big, since it's a lot easier to digest.

You need to think about why you're doing what you're doing. With a name like Compassion MD, remember what you are doing this for, and realize that you are doing all of this to become a better physician. When you learn for learning's sake, everything will come easy for you.

With that said, read Robbins once with the goal of *understanding* what you're reading, rather than memorizing or whatever. Then, turn to your review books (BRS, etc.) and then use those to summarize the key points and then start to bang those down in your head. If you don't understand a concept, go back to Robbins and read about it again. Then, go through the Robbins pictures.

A year is a LONG time to study for boards... I would argue it's way too much, especially since most of us only study for a few weeks and still do fine. You're just going to forget the first things you studied. If your goal is to do well on the boards, you need to do a million practice questions and read the answer explanations. Looking at review books is important, but not as high yield as doing questions, assuming you've already reviewed.

Thank you all for your advice.... =D Really apprecaite it. 🙂

Yes, English is my second language... 🙁

Take the time to work on your English. People don't like to say this, b/c it seems rude, but there are so many people who fail the clinicals b/c of language. Find someone who will be brutally honest with you, and will take the time to help you work on details of grammar and pronunciation and nuance, so that you pass.

I'm not saying this in reference to your post, just as a general comment b/c you said you're ESL.
