Hello everyone!

I am finishing up my last year at college. I just took the June MCAT--22N.
(I took Kaplan review course and practice test average was 24).
VR 7
BS 8
PS 7
science GPA is 3.629
cumulative GPA is 3.804

I have been involved in extracurricular activities in school (school newspaper writer, TA for math class, TA for upper-division animal physiology lab, president of the pre-health club, lab research, member of a few honor societies, volunteering at the hospital during summer and winter breaks).

I am more interested in DO programs than MD and really want to go to Western being from CA. (My sister currently attends Western for DO and several family members are physicians, including my dad (MD).)

Is there any realistic chance I can get into any schools? In the US? What schools should I definitely contact about applying? The MCAT is definitely a downer, but I don't think that I should retake in the fall with an overloaded schedule to graduate in spring.

Please, I appreciate constructive advice!

hmm...that's a toughie. You're individual scores look good, however, I think some schools might rule you out because of the low overall MCAT score. I'd suggest calling the schools you want to apply to and ask if they would accept your score. Personally, if it were me, I'd retake. Best of luck with everything! :luck:

Am I missing something here? Retaking the MCAT in late summer or early fall cannot possibly affect you in your Loaded Senior year. An increase of 2 to 3 points can push you to get at least one D.O. interview, why not give yourself a chance. Your sis probly told you the same.

I don't know about this. Your GPA is really good right now, and that's really hard to fix once it gets messed up. If taking the MCAT again in the fall will be a big problem for you with your studies, I might suggest taking a year off and studying for and taking it again next summer or fall. I agree that you should aim for a higher MCAT, but if you take it again, score roughly the same, and end up with a lower GPA because of it, then you're worse off. Go with what you personally think you are able to do. (Also, I don't know that it's impossible to get into a DO school as you are right now. I don't know if you could, but you obviously stand a better chance getting into a school like Western with a higher MCAT.)
