should she retake it soon or in couple months and still be in part of this cycle? If gpa is low then that would mean she probably needs a really strong MCAT score to get accepted into any school. If she applied to low level DO schools she may be okay though.
Depends on if she studied enough that she is confident she will score high if she retakes in sooner than later. But its hard to know what she should do because she hasnt gotten her initial score back yet.should she retake it soon or in couple months and still be in part of this cycle?
Yes.What if someone has applied to medical schools this cycle and have just took the mcat and was sick on test day and didnt void it. should she withdraw application, wait for score ( even though they might be bad). gpa IS below average...
the reason for not avoiding the exam is because she has been verified and has done some secondaries !! so theres no way to withdraw or retaking the mcat ?1) It is far far too late to even consider retaking the MCAT for this cycle. Most schools require Sept 1 or there abouts MCAT date as latest
2) Applying without knowing your MCAT score is a mistake and should NEVER be done
3) You were already a low GPA so you needed an EARLY and STRONG MCAT
4) You were sick on test day and that is the reason for the VOID option.
If your application hasnt been verified yet, then withdraw immediately. That way you will not have been considered to have applied and you wont be a reapplicant next cycle. If you already have been verified, and your application transmitted to schools, then you will be considered to have applied. Have you done any secondaries yet?
the application has been verified and has done some secondariesYes.
Applying with a poor GPA is foolish.
Taking a high stakes, career deciding exam when you're you're sick is doubly foolish.
Classic sunk cost fallacy.the reason for not avoiding the exam is because she has been verified and has done some secondaries !! so theres no way to withdraw or retaking the mcat ?
would she get refund?? 3.1 gpa, that was her first time taking mcat! scores will come in a monthClassic sunk cost fallacy.
She'll be rejected on the first MCAT score and GPA (what were the numbers?) Schools are under no obligation to wait for a 2nd score.
She can certainly withdraw! That's the smart thing to do!!!!
The bias against reapplicants is mostly SDN hype.
she also applied early in cycle. it just didnt take mcat.would she get refund?? 3.1 gpa, that was her first time taking mcat! scores will come in a month
Refund. Nope.would she get refund?? 3.1 gpa, that was her first time taking mcat! scores will come in a month
should she withdraw now or wait till she gets score? whats the point for withdrawing if she aint getting refunds and apply again though ?Refund. Nope.
If money is an issue, she should work for a few years, and save up for this process.
FYI, Secondaries are often a tax on the hopelessly naïve, if not pathologically optimistic.
A 3.1 GPA is lethal for MD schools, and merely OK for DO. She's be DOA at mine even with a 520 MCAT (unless she had a massive upward GPA trend, or did an SMP).
Have her read this:
Goro's advice for pre-meds who need reinvention
also would she consider as a reapplicant if she applied again after withdrawing ?should she withdraw now or wait till she gets score? whats the point for withdrawing if she aint getting refunds and apply again though ?
also would she consider as a reapplicant if she applied again after withdrawing ?
Because she'll get rejected and it's a waste of her time and the screeners.should she withdraw now or wait till she gets score? whats the point for withdrawing if she aint getting refunds and apply again though ?
she cant withdraw now becuase the process is complete, unless she contacted med schools right ?Because she'll get rejected and it's a waste of her time and the screeners.
would it lower the chances when applying again
Dear Dean of Admissions, she cant withdraw now because the process is complete, unless she contacted med schools right ?
I need to reiterate, the bias against reapplicants is mostly SDN hype.would it lower the chances when applying again
Eyyyy mon, she’s alllrrite fo da carribean.I need to reiterate, the bias against reapplicants is mostly SDN hype.
Reapplicants do get penalized when they're stellar...Adcoms wonder "why didn't this person get in the last time?"
That's not going to happen with your friend. She's not viable for MD and circling the drain for DO.
Just to summarize all this
Sigh. I wish you were an advisor at my college.
