Hi Everyone,

I shadowed some Podiatrists lately and I love Podiatry. But I am not sure if I will be able to get into a Pod school because my undergrad GPA is 2.0 and Science GPA is 3.40.

I also have a Masters degree with a GPA of 3.80. But I have few F's in my undergrad, had pretty rough family and financial hardships at that time.

I havent taken the MCAT yet but would I be looked at favorably if I get an MCAT score of around 25-28? I have about 3 years of healthcare work experience also.

Thanks everyone.

I'd say those numbers are pretty impressive, even with the Fs in undergrad. Remember that these folks will be looking at your most recent work, so if the past 2 or 3 years have been stellar, which it sounds like they were, then that will bode well for you. Everyone makes mistakes, especially in undergrad when life changes so dramatically and you are still immature. I know I did! I would still shoot for a high score on the MCAT though, that can only help you.

It kinda depends what your MS is in. If it's MPH, then a 3.8 is a dime a dozen, but if you did a good quality accelerated SMP and performed well, then it will help you. I'm sure you can find a school, especially if the grades are trending upward, but you want to apply very soon if you are looking to start this fall (just send MCAT scores later).

The big thing working against you is just time at this point. Some of the more competitive pod schools are probably nearing capacity, and the less competitive ones are probably running out of scholarship offerings. I'd get your apps in fairly soon. GL

Thanks for your input everyone. My MS is in Genetics and Developmental Biology. It was pretty tough and from a very good university.

I am also planning to take some online Physics, Chemistry and Biochem courses just to prove that I am a very capable student. Btw, does anyone know of any good online/distance learning organic/general chemistry, anatomy, physiology courses (obviously non-lab based).

Thank you everyone.

I don't know of any good online courses, but wanted to make sure that most schools require that your pre-req science courses have labs so I'm not sure if it will do you any good unless you are just reviewing for your own review.

Thanks Skipee, I just want to do them for review and also in part to get a good grade to show the selection panel that I would be a great Pod student also. I already have the pre-reqs with labs from undergrad yrs.

I am in a similar situation as lovebug. I am thinking of taking some online courses also. I contacted some schools about this but havent heard from them yet. I am an overseas student interested in doing Podiatry in the US.

I have great Masters GPA and work experience in healthcare. I would like to know whether there are any good online courses in Anat&Physio, Chem and Physics. Thanks.
