Hello,

I am currently in my freshman year of college and it has been a very difficult semester for me. I am scoring a C-in Calculus 1 and General Biology. I was wondering if pharmacy schools do not even look at your application if you scored a C- in a pre-req? If I take Calculus 2 and pass with a grade of C or better will they then look past my C- in Calculus 1?

Note: My post might sound harsh, but it's just me giving you a kick in the right direction...

If you're saying you're currently taking Calc 1, get help now! Don't just settle for a C, get that B. Most pharmacy schools don't require or look at Calc 2, so do well now. There are only so many math/science pre-requisites. Work your ass off in all of them or risk rejection with a <3.0 sci GPA. Fix Biology right now too, it's the easiest science pre-req. if you can't handle that then wait til you get to Biochem. To answer your other question, I believe a C- is the minimum you can earn in a pre-req course.

I only have finals left for both and they are weighed as any other test. The odds do not seem to be in my favor. I am obviously going to study but I was just wondering what to do in the worst case scenario. If worse comes to worse, should I simply retake both classes?

As far as I know schools do not accept C- for prerequisites ... at least that was the case with schools I applied to. You have to have C or better, and they emphasize that with C- you have to retake the class.

As mentioned you may have to retake them anyways if you score less than a C. If you are on the cusp of a C I would go talk to your professor. Explain to them the troubles you have been having and ask if there is anything they can suggest. Depending on the prof you may get a sympathy boost. If you get a C I would not retake either class. Cut your losses and do extremely well in your remaining courses and you will not have a problem.
