Can anyone give me some insight between Univ of Cincinnati and Drexel? I am debating between these two schools...

I am from CA and am used to big cities, therefore I am hesitant about Cincinnati's location. On the other hand, it is ranked very high, BUT their match list has basically no one going to the west coast. I know this is also because of a lot the students are from OH and want to stay, but it still makes me uneasy.

I got a more laid-back vibe from Drexel than I did Cincinnati so I liked that a lot but that could also be a function of my student interviewer and his experience. It is in philly area, which I prefer over cincy. On the other hand, it is not ranked.. But it did have a decent number of kids matching in CA.

UGH I am so confused. I didn't get a strong feeling of like/dislike at either interview so please help. I want to go somewhere w/ arelatively less competitive environment/good location/best chance to go back to CA.

Thank you!

I can't speak for Cincinnati, but there are a buttload (that's a technical term) of Californians at Drexel and it seems like they all plan on going back for residency. To give you an idea, there were >30 California matches for the 2009ers this past month. Don't take this the wrong way though, that's not due to Drexel's innate ability to match people to California programs.

Don't let cincy's 2009 match list fool you. They place quite a bit of people on the west coast (probably more than any other ohio school). I don't know much about drexel, but I can tell you that everything about cincy is great: the curriculum, new facilities, the AMAZING architecture, great placement all over the country, the university hospital, class size (not too big not too small), awesome environment, and the fact that it's in cincy. You can get exposure to pretty much anything you're looking for.

I had a very difficult time giving up my cincy acceptance.

go to Drexel so I can get into Cincy off the alternate list 😉

Philadelphia>Cincinnati

would you go to a school with the motto "In the tradition of Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann Medical College" instead of cincy?

What I am trying to say that Drexel is very new and had frequent name changes, as well as financial hardships.

drexel has hardships because as it was said
philly > cincy

penn takes south, west, rich people
temple has crap loads of hospital on the northeast, and they take that region
jefferson has been doing decently and Hahnemann has always struggled to find a patient niche i guess, so they have been sold to different private institutions.

with that said hahnemann is pretty well known in this area and its has/had a great rep (in this area)

natti airport > philly int'l

with that said, i want to know what drexel kids think about the amount of BA/MD kids that go to their med school

philly sucks...leaving in no later than 6 weeks

Might want to consider if you can establish residency in either state so your tuition is lower for at least part of the time you are there.

Yeah, you can establish Ohio residency after one year, so you'd be able to get IS tuition at Cincinnati.

Won't establishing ohio residency affect my chances of going back to CA?
Money is a factor but I'd rather go somewhere more expensive but where I will be happier
