I have a list of pharmacy schools I'm looking at. Right now it is at 10 schools, but I want to eliminate some.

Please select 2 or so from the list that YOU would eliminate and please state why (with justification) you would not apply, or why you would prefer another program:

(listed in no particular order)

U of Texas - Austin, TX
U of Houston - Houston, TX
U of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, NC
U of Colorado - Aurora, CO
U of Maryland - Baltimore, MD
U of Illinois - Chicago, IL
U of Incarnate Word - San Antonio, TX
Long Island University - Brooklyn, NY
Lipscomb University - Nashville, TN
Belmont University - Nashville, TN

If they are on your list you must have some interest in all of them, so why not just apply for all of them?

well.. i feel like applying to alot, the supp apps for each school wont be as strong, just bc ill be stretching myself out to finish them all.. I feel like if i can concentrate on a few I would have a better shot. Also im looking to collect info on the schools from people who might know something I dont

I would maybe scratch some off according to proximity first, then go for OOS vs. Instate (depending whether or not schools take that into consideration), then maybe make a cost comparison, then go for ones with similar pre-requisites and look at their programs. I guess it all depends on what you want out of and what you like about each school.
Your decision might ultimately be based off widely-ranged criteria, but that's how I'm going about it. Good Luck! 👍

Copy and paste, my friend. Just make sure you change the school name in each essay. 😀

Half of them probably don't even require a supplemental essay. I know Belmont and UNC don't.

Ive already checked prereqs, OOS seat %, and programs. costs is no issue to me, im just looking for strong opinions from people I suppose

First this depends on what state you come from.

UIC gives a strong preference for in state, so if you are not from IL and/or do not have a stellar application, I would cross them off.

I would cross off Belmont, Lipscomb, and UIW because they are newer schools, unless you don't have a strong application. I also haven't hear great things about LIU...I think their NAPLEX pass rates are on the low side.

I feel my app is competitive for UIC, what do you think
GPA ~3.5 their avg gpa is 3.5
PCAT 99%
work exp/shadowing in many different pharm environments + CPhT cert + org's
published research
many pharm-related courses taken

UIW bc its a safety school in Texas other than UT or U of H, Belmont & Lipscomb bc in Nashville, where my uncle pharmacists works. I plan to work in his pharmacy later in life.

i would have to disagree. before, yes, this was true. it was somewhere in the realm of 90% in-state/10% out-of-state.

starting this year though, i believe it is 70% in-state, 30% out-of-state (i hope i remembered those numbers correctly). if you apply out-of-state, you have a pretty good chance of getting in since there are not that many out-of-state applicants. this makes it difficult for Illinois students to get into the best pharm school in the midwest 🙂 now you may wonder, why are they allowing more out-of-state students? i'm not sure but i know one thing: you can charge out-of-state students more tuition 👍

Are you a TX resident? If so, cross of both TN schools. Neither are great schools and with your stats you should be able to get into the others easily.

If I were you I would apply to about 4.

I am a TX resident. however going to school in nashville has huge practical implications for me, as I would work in my uncles pharmacy during school vs not at all.... Schools like UIW, and other pharmcas schools have virtually no supp apps that take time, so keeping them on isnt an inconvenience for me. i want some choices on where to go, citywise etc... also

which four would you apply to? (doesnt have to be from my 'list')

UIW does have a supplemental app + essay unless things have changed recently.

Based on what you've said - Texas resident, job/family in TN - If I were you I would probably apply to the two public TX schools and the TN schools. Others I would only apply to if you feel like there is some compelling reason for why you would want to go to them. Keep in mind that if you do end up interviewing at several schools cost in both time and money can add up quickly. Also many people try to go to a pharmacy school in the region or state that they want to work in when they graduate.
