I would really appreciate if someone could help me create a list of schools I could realistically apply to. Many many thanks in advance. Please also comment if in any way I could improve my application (besides retaking courses). I want to apply in this coming cycle.

I would like to apply for MD-PhD programs. I have been doing neuroscience translational research for the past 2 years since graduation and I really like the work I am doing at the interphase of clinical & basic research. Hence MD-PhD. I realize my GPA is very low for MD-PhD or even MD.
  1. cGPA and sGPA --> 3.1 for both
  2. MCAT score --> 523; 130, 131, 130, 132
  3. State of residence --> New York
  4. Ethnicity --> Indian
  5. Undergraduate institution --> Cornell University
  6. Clinical experience --> Volunteering at two hospitals for a total of ~300 hours
  7. Research experience and productivity --> 2 years in undergraduate (no posters or papers). 2 years full-time as a research technician (2nd author for a Nature Communications, 3rd for a Journal of Neuroscience, another 1st author submitted to Journal of Neuroscience)
  8. Shadowing experience --> ~ 50 hours with an emergency PA; 40 hours with a gastro MD
  9. Non-clinical volunteering --> at least 200 hours with Habitat for Humanity when I was an undergrad; volunteer at the local public library by helping kids do some homework
  10. Planning on applying to --> SUNY Stony Brook, SUNY Upstate, SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Downstate, Mount Sinai, Albert Einstein, Albany Medical, New York Medical School, Penn State, Rutgers, UMass. Plus anywhere else you guys suggest where I may have a chance.
Thank you for your time.

Yes, I am open to MD without PhD component. I haven’t thought seriously about DO, perhaps it’s time I do and have my recommenders prepare their letters for DO on my behalf. I am interest in hearing what wisdom you may want to share. Thanks!

Your chances for a MD acceptance are only in the 50% range with your stats. I suggest all these schools:
All 4 SUNY's
Albany
New York Medical College
Hofstra
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Penn State
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Seton Hall
George Washington
NOVA MD
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Medical College Wisconsin
Rosalind Franklin
St. Louis
Creighton
California University (new school)
Kaiser (if it opens for 2019)
Also apply to at least 6 DO schools.

Thank you for your help! I really appreciate it. May I ask if I will be automatically screened out by some the schools due to low GPA? Also, did you have any suggestions for MD-PhD schools?

Pursuit of MD/PhD will be significantly more difficult for you given your low GPA, unfortunately. The MSAR is a good resource. Where you’re unable to find specifics stats on the combined program, check out individual schools sites as many of them publish stats that will help you narrow down which schools to apply at.

Thank you for your input!

Your GPAs are lethal for MD and barely OK for DO. I don't think that you'd get an II from my school.

MD/PhD candidates need to be superstars. Do not think that your MCAT score will save you...it will only raise questions as to the disconnect between GPA and the MCAT
