Help! Denver, PGSP-Stanford, Yeshiva PsyD

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
PGSP will be substantially more expensive I expect and you would be wise to do the numbers for each school very carefully. Also, early immersion in clinical work can be an advantage in many ways and will be well-supervised so I would not second-guess Denver in that regard. Their in-house internship plus APA match rate outside of that seem excellent and they are a well regarded program. I'd put sentiment and status questions aside and look very carefully at the costs over time.

I agree that you shouldn't be too concerned about being thrown into clinical work early. My program also starts field placements and clients in the first year -- I've found it a tremendous advantage as I've got tons more experience than some of my peers in other programs.

Believe it or not, PGSP-Stanford is almost exactly the same price. So, that isn't a deciding factor. I'm gonna be in about the same amount of debt coming out of each program.

gotta go with the best fit, not to mention the fact that the school is apart of a university. sounds like U.Denver is an easy decision to me!

Isn't Ferkauf also part of a University == Cardozo?

Yes, Ferkauf School of Psychology is associated with Yeshiva University (not a Professional School).

PGSP-Stanford is associated with Stanford University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

If this is the Yeshiva that is in NYC, i think it is massively expensive, too. I know several interns who went there and all 3 owed >$300K...

Oh yeah, that's right. I think Cardozo is the name of the law school that's part of Yeshiva. My past legal life coming back to haunt me...

Hi so I decided to accept my offer from PGSP-Stanford, and I thought maybe I could share with you how I came to that decision (although in your case, of course, these might be things you felt about your other choices).
1) the faculty I talked with seemed to get me--they seemed to appreciate that I'd worked hard to get this far, the seemed to respect my career goals (clinician working in hospital/clinic engaged with professional community, perhaps collaborating on research part-time) and were interested in helping me achieve them (as opposed to other Psy.D. programs where I felt I would be more tailored for private practice, or the Ph.D. program where I would be funneled into doing more research than I wanted)
2) I could imagine myself living in the area and being happy, enjoying hikes and sunshine. My environment is really important to me though--this might not be a big deal for you
3) When I thought about going somewhere else, I kept feeling a little sad that woudn't be going here

Now the HUUUUGE downside is the cost. I spent excel spreadsheets, emails to financial aid, and conversations with partner wrestling with this. It is going to suck, I probably won't be able to buy a house until way down the road if ever, but, for me I decided it was worth it.
