Hello my fellow PT students! I need help with something not exactly pertaining to PT, but pertaining to my education.

I am 26, currently working fulltime and trying to finish my undergrad so I can apply to PT school.

I plan to continue working fulltime until next May (2012). Then I want to leave my job and go to school fulltime until I am completely finished with my undergrad and grad.

Here's the question though:

Can you get grants and loans starting for summer semester? To keep me on track with my desired graduation date and to stay in sync with PT school application deadlines--I would need to take 4 classes during the 2012 summer semester.

But are grants/loans usually only given during the "main" semesters like Spring and Fall?

Hello, DeterminedOne! My advice to you is to contact the university you expect to attend while finishing your undergrad degree. Talk to the financial aid office & tell them your situation. Sometimes the financial aid departments are difficult to work things out with even when you're a current student, but if you keep on bugging them, then it usually pays off. They should be able to tell you about summer fin-aid options - it's their job, after all. 🙂

Also, I would advise doing your FASFA if you have not already done it. A lot of grants & scholarships use this as a resource when deciding to give students fin-aid. Good luck!

Thanks! Yes, I have relied on FAFSA the last two college semesters, it has been a lifesaver for those poor students like me 😉

You will need to complete a FAFSA for grad school too, but only the loans are available........no grants and as of 2012 we have to pay interest while we are in school.....no more subsidized loans..... and there is a limit as to how much you can borrow per year and a total cap.

Yes, you can fill out a FAFSA for summer sessions that is seperate from the FAFSA you fill out for fall-spring.

do you know why all these changes are happening?

grants were never available to graduate students, they are solely for undergraduate studies and the graduate loans are changing to all unsubsidized because our economy blows so the government doesn't want to pay our interest for us while we're in school anymore. That's the short version 😉
