What do you want it to do?

I want it to be able to run programs like epocrates, drug interactions, and other programs that will help me during rotations.

Get a Pocket PC, if you get StyleTap, you can run all the Palm programs you want, and all the Pocket PC programs.

Palm = CTD

Do i need to worry about one program only running on one type of pda or is that a problem?

Tungsten E or E2 sounds like what you want. Simple and relatively cheap.

I just got my HP2755 in and I'm very pleased with it so far. One of the nice features it has is finger-print ID for access, so patient info is secure I would think.

This unit has 256Meg of memory and runs at 624MHz, built-in wifi, bluetooth, and it is also small and compact. It runs in portrait or landscape mode, has a voice recorder, and multiple expansion slots.

Of course, being a iPAQ, a Pocket PC, it plays nice with outlook, the battery can be changed by the user, and it can run multiple programs at once, unlike the Palm units. Check it out.

What is the major difference between a Pocket PC and a Palm unit? Is there anywhere that I can go to read about them?

MobileTechReview is a pretty decent website. The best thing you can do is to head out to your local electronics store and play with both operating systems to see which one you like the most.
