Hi everyone- I shouldn't be soliciting this kind of advice on here- only increasing my stress level. But I have a question for some of the faculty/residents that peruse this website. I've been pulling my hair out and really down and out the past few days, so I felt like I should post.

I submitted my SF application a while back. My registrar's office told me that they had sent both my medical school and undergraduate transcripts. It had been taking SF a while to process my medical school transcript, but I figured they hadn't yet scanned it and realized it was both medical school and undergrad. I called my registrar's office who promised me they had sent both. I then called my dean's office, which stated that no, in fact the medical school will NOT let the registrar's office send combined transcripts. Everyone was very apologetic and great about it all, and overnighted my transcript which just arrived yesterday. I have been told that my application will be sent out Monday; SF Match has been great about this too.

BUT my question is- is it simply too late? It really bugs me that I thought had everything in at a reasonable time, but my application is now past SF's recommended due date. I can't point fingers anywhere; it was simply miscommunication and a new employee at the registrar's office who was doing her very best to help. I'm wondering if I should delay a year now with all of the stories I hear on here about late applications going downhill.

I go to a top school, my boards are 250, I have average grades, some research, and some really really great recommendation letters. I wonder if any current faculty or residents have an opinion on what I should do next. Thank you all so very much for your help.

You'll be fine. Unless, of course, you reveal your anxious tendencies on your interviews. 🙂

Same opinion as above. Just get everything in and you'll be fine. Its not too late. Applying and matching in ophtho is one of the biggest stressors anyone ever goes through. Try and relax. It will make the process (almost) bearable

I had a similar issue, the transcript that I had sent out only had my 1st and 2nd year grades on it since for some reason the 3rd year grades were delayed in coming out at my school that year. I was completely oblivious to this until MID OCTOBER when the school i was doing an away at told me they wanted to give me an interview but had none of my 3rd year clinical grades. I left early in a panic and spent the rest of the afternoon obtaining my updated transcript and individually emailing it to every program on my list since i didnt want to wait for it to go through SF Match. Talk about damage control! I still got my fair share of interviews and matched. Being that the "deadline" just now passed, im sure youll be just fine getting it in there as soon as you can.

I wouldn't sweat it- most programs have rolling applications. Not too late. Every program wants the best potential residents. Maybe it is a bit easier to get an interview earlier at SOME programs, MAYBE. Not to the point that it would be worth it waiting a year. It's still September! I know a very good applicant who still hasn't gotten her first interview offer, and she applied weeks ago.

If you're still worried, consider applying broadly.
