Hello everyone!

I had a concern and was wondering if anyone was willing to put in their 2 cents.

The deal is that I have been out of school for 2 years (about to be 3 come next May). During my undergrad year, I was applying to summer internships and such but due to some personal reasons, was not able to turn in my applications. There was undergrad research that was required for my major, but I wouldn't really call it 'research' since the professor was very disoriented and kind of lenient on his students and all we did was turn in a 12 page paper about some theoretical research we 'did'.

Basically, I have no research experience and was wondering how I should go about gaining some? I was thinking about e-mailing my Biochem professor as he was always interested in having students come into his lab to help out but since I am 2 years out from school, I wasn't sure how I would approach him and in which way. Thank you!

You answered your own question. Email him and ask if you can help out. I've been a part of two labs and several other projects, and I got involved with all of them just by asking, including two projects while I was out of school already.

Hey! Thanks for you reply. Can I ask exactly which places you asked? Were they academic institutions or lab companies? I am trying to write down places I could e-mail and ask.

I am working with a prof I had in undergrad. I simply emailed him and asked if he'd sort of advise me on a project I wanted to do, and he said yes. I also joined a neuroscience and a physical chem wet lab in undergrad simply by emailing. I am sure that even if I had graduated, they would have welcomed me in.
