Help, Grades arent where they should be!

Instead of raising the white flag and limiting your options by searching for easy schools, do your best in your classes. You are only a first year student so continually raise your grades, do well on the DAT, and have extracurricular.

just to give you a little hope, i posted a 2.7-2.8 after my freshman year of college. graduated with a 3.1, did one year post bac at a local college and got straight A's. 8 interviews and 4 acceptances so far. just crush the dat's and get your gpa somewhat respectable you'll be fine

Seems like you barely just finished your first year at school. Grades aren't the best, but you still have 2 more years to work on those. Just do better in the future classes. Try for at least a 3.5 science and overall.

Don't try to take the easy way out and apply to "easy" schools. Try to study more. Do more practice problems for tests. Don't cram 2 days before.

If your grades are not the best, you will have to do a little better than most on the DAT. You can also try and outweigh the bad grades a little by doing a lot of volunteering, leadership stuff. But even with tons of volunteering and stuff you still need an OK gpa. GPA should come first over volunteering etc.

The better question at this point is, why are you getting such grades?

As Blue suggested, is it more that you don't understand the material, or that because of curves, the bars are set very high? If it's the later, it's really not that huge of an issue, as the DAT can make up for a low gpa. I applied to dental school with a 3.01 science GPA (C in Ochem 1, D in Ochem 2) and I got in to a number of schools, including Columbia, because I showed that I really did understand the information. This isn't to say it's easy or even common to do what I did, I'm just saying that you shouldn't count yourself out yet.

Seek out help from your professors if you're having issues with the material - right now you think know what you want out of life, now you just need to take hold of that and do what you need to do.

Everyone thinks their school's courses are tougher than others. That may be, but d schools don't care where you graduated from, they care about the grades you make. Just something to keep in mind. So instead of limiting yourself by saying you'll crush the dat or make excuses like your school is hard, the best thing to do is get better grades by studying, tutors, professors, etc. Best advice I can give you is read the textbook and do all the problems in the book. If you truly understand the entire text then despite how "hard" a class might be you will get Bs at least and most likely As. Besides you can't crush the dats if you understand the pre-reqs at a C level. So you have plenty of time, but you must work hard and make the grades
