Okay. Here is my situation. I am in the middle of switching schools and I really have no access to a pre-dent advisor. I'm going into this blind so if anybody could tell me how my application looks, it would be sooooo appreciated.

I am a psychology major with a minor in chemistry. I took AP bio. Other than chem and orgo, my only science course is a research project in computational chemistry that I am getting credit for. I am also doing research in psychology.

My Science GPA is 3.93 and my non-science GPA is 3.99.

I was an EMT in a foreing country. I worked with mentally disabled individuals and received certification to dispense medications. I tutor and spent many hours volunteering at a soup kitchen. I spent 3 years abroad.

I spent a total of 44 hours shadowing a general dentist, an endodontist, an oral surgeon, an orthodontist, and a periodontist.

Okay I took the dat twice. The first time I didn't do so well I got:

  • AA 17
  • TS 17
  • Organic 17
  • Gen Chem 17
  • Bio 17
  • RC 19
  • QR 16
  • PAT 21
I took it yesterday and got:
  • AA 22
  • TS 22
  • Orgo 23
  • Gen Chem 22
  • Bio 20
  • RC 28 (is that possible??)
  • QR 15
  • PAT 19
What are my chances of getting accepted to dental school? Does my lack of sciences kill me? Did the 15 on the QR cut my chances to 0?

Like I said, I have no help with this. I applied to Case with my old dat scores and they rejected me and are not willing to look at my application a second time with my new dat scores. Pleaseeeee hellpppp meeee...

Well hopefully you didn't just apply to Case. They're REALLY highly looking upon the academic part of your application. With your stats, you should be pretty good to get at least a couple interviews. Whether you're accepted or not, it's really up to your interviewing score to back you up. I know plenty of people getting into DS with a 15 on QR but a high AA. Don't worry about it mann.

Your new DAT scores are great. The national avg for QR is always relatively low so I wouldn't worry. I have not seen the rest of your app, but it may be that your lack of upper level science courses is hindering you recieving interviews at the moment. I would seek advice from an admissions officer at one of the schools you applied to.

You should totally be fine. Some schools will require a 16 on every section, so don't apply to those schools. That's a SOLID score though. You might be too late for this round, but dish out the money and see who picks you up. There's always a bunch of schools that save some spots for competitive applicants, which would be you, assuming your GPA is good too. If not, your score is good for a few years and you should be good for next year. Also, if you end up waiting one more year, I'd take a couple upper division sciences, like Anatomy or Biochem. I did that and I think it helped. And honestly, I got into a couple schools this year with a 17 AA and a QR of 14. Some schools are fine with that. Don't sweat it, but do everything you can right now to get in this round. It might seem like a waste of money, but if it works, it's not. You just need one! Good luck!

You seriously waiting people's time with this question? Or do you just want to fish for complements? As if you had intelligence you would realize your scores are way above average at every dental school.

You will definitely need to do more bio as you only have a AP highschool course. not really counting to dental school requirements

GPA scores higher and DAT either about average or little less than average

I was thinking the same thing.......just didn't say it. To the OP you are an adult and should not be asking us if a 4.0 and 22 DAT is good enough.

Yeah you just took the test and hopefully you have all the prereqs taken care of....but you don't need a predent advisor or us to figure out the next step. I have never seen a predent advisor. Maybe the score is late for this cycle (maybe not).....but if so you are a shoe in next year.

I'm graduating this semester and I don't want to waste my time taking more bios which i will just need to retake in dental school. I just got off the phone with the dean and first he yelled at me about how low my first dats were. I was looking on the predent.com website and I was looking at the averages for students that were rejected and they were 21 and 20s. I'm not happy with my pat score this time and I'm worried about the qr. What could be keeping those applicants out? And which dental schools should I apply to? Does it really make a difference if you apply to 30? I only applied to three and have been rejected from two of them based on my first dat. I'm trying to get a feel for what kind of dat scores schools are looking for. One guy is telling me he got in with a 17 and the dean from case said theyve never even considered an applicant with scores like that. What is the next step? See which schools are still taking applications and send in to those schools?

I gotta tell ya that applying to 3 schools with that first DAT was a major mistake.......because once you are recjected you will not be reconsidered. Secondly, most all schools have stopped accepting applications.

You are going to likely have to hold off a year.....but put it in early and you'll have your pick of the litter.

There is so much more to an application other than gpa and DAT.......those people that get rejected with high stats may be OOS or lack some requirement.

What I am saying is visit the websites of the schools you are interested in, speak with their deans and be ready to do what they tell you for the next cycle.

👍👍

Just make sure you have the proper prereq bios as well, you may be done with bio in your minds. But some schools have more requirements than other schools.

Definately needed to apply more than 3 schools. as gentleman said, there is alot more the schools looke at than just scores

so at the end of the day, what kind of scores do schools look for? Is there a score that will definitely get you in somewhere? Should I take the DATs again?

You must be joking..................I really feel like I shouldn't even waste my time answering this but oh well.

Listen, your gpa and DAT are now nothing short of amazing. That doesn't mean you are going to get picked up this year(you are late). Make sure you have all the prereqs and some higher levels and apply early in June.....

There are a handful of schools that are still accepting applications...and so maybe you should submit to them before Feb 1st.

I have some questions for you though....how old are you? and do you have any common sense? you need to be more self-reliant
