Can anyone please explain the difference between these two reactions?

Hydration only adds OH usually with addition of a base ie: NaOH

Are you sure you don't have them switched?

Oops!! Hydrolysis means removal or separation of water. The hydration reaction is the addition of water, but can also include just the adding of OH from a base such as KOH, NaOH...

Oh okay!! Great thanks!! I emailed the ppl over at Dr. Collins just to double check. From reading my ochem book, it looks like a HYDRATION reaction is when water is added to alkenes to yield alcohols.

Hydrolysis - is a reaction with water to yield a carboxylic acid.

I'm still waiting on the "official" answer from Collins' ppl. Thanks though!!!! I keep getting the two mixed up when I'm doing practice problems...hope I can get the hang of it by Wednesday's exam!! 😕
