I have only 2 days to study for CS, long story. Where do I begin, what is the most high yield. I have the FA CS book, if I read that will I be fine? Do I really need to practice?

I would say grab a buddy and practice until your brain bleeds. Know all the cases in the FA book. Know what they are looking for such as good history taking, counceling, physical exam, and conclusion with differentials and follow up diagnostic tests. You better make the most of those 2 days.

I read through FA once and practiced maybe 3 cases with my fiancee (she sucks as an SP) the night before. You'll be fine, as long as you know what you're doing in the real world.

You know the medicine already. Make sure you ask all the questions by the book that no one asks in real life (sexual hx on 85yo COPD pt, birth history etc etc). Make sure to ask allerg and meds/doses. As long as you speak fluent english and are a competant medical student, it is the "communication" section that presents the greatest risk of failure. Make sure to introduce/wash hands/ recap what they said/ ask if any questions/ summarize and give plan with SPECIFICS lay terms to make sure you pass the communication. By specifics I mean don't close with "you may have X or Y so i'm going to order some tests to figure it out" instead say "you may have X or Y so i'm going to order an EKG to check the electrical activity of your heart, an Xray to checkout your heart and lungs, etc.

Oh...and even if the acting is terrible, completely half hearted, you need to stay in the game pretending like this is a patient and expressing empathy etc, even if the complaint is minor.

word of advice, test is harder than you think, practice in advance.

what do you think made it tough? the time limit? writing up a differential? any insight would be helpful, I have this test in a few days! ahhh! only read through FA:CS once and hoping that will be enough.

Absolutely read through FA. If you already did a family medicine or ED rotation where you had to see a lot of patients in 15 minute periods and present them to a resident/attending, you are going to be fine. If you already did OSCE stuff at your school and it went well, you are going to be fine. In those cases I wouldn't worry so much about practicing. If you haven't had much clinical experience, however, then yeah, you'd better practice, and 2 days won't be enough.

i think it's a little too late for that. he/she most likely already took the exam.
