I am doing a postbacc/masters at Barry University, and I am submitting secondaries now for fall 2006 to go to medical school. Is it unrealistic that I will get in for fall 2006? The program is a 1 year masters, and I was told some schools will definitely wait for your first semester grades from the masters, but I'm worried that I'm going to have to wait till 2007...
I applied to 25 schools...

What do you guys think?

Having done a one-year Master's, I think the most important factor is to keep everyone informed. Make sure your advisors know that you are applying and intend on being done with all your coursework by August. By doing so, you guarantee there will be no surprises when you need to apply for your diploma. In general, most advisors are knowledgeable about the application process and have great connections with the admissions departments of various medical schools. Ask that they keep in touch with the schools to which you are applying by sending periodic reports on your progress through the program.

When I did my Master's at Georgetown, they sent a "recommendation letter" right at the beginning of the program to all my schools to let them know I was in their program and scheduled to graduate in July. They followed that up after midterms and after first semester. Truthfully, I didn't get an interview until after New Year's, but after that I had the opportunity to interview with several great programs.

Last but not least, make sure you finish your coursework! It would be awful to get accepted and have to defer or give up your seat because of a snafu with your transcript!

I hope this helps!
