C's get degrees and D is for dentist.
My orgo I prof said the first day of class "This class is what separates the doctors from the dentists." What's that supposed to mean 😕CJWolf said:nah
C = continue
D = you're done
F = you're f*cked

Should said, This class is what separates the doctors from the high school/college teachers.
organichemistry said:well i made an A in organic chemistry I and i know plenty of pre-meds who didn't. that's why i find the statement offensive... fact is, dental students have better GPA's than osteopathic students. there are stellar dental students and stellar medical students. to generalize dental school students as students who didn't quite cut it in pre-med is very offensive. i am well into pre-dentistry and could easily switch back to pre-med, apply, and get accepted ahead of a lot of pre-meds i know.

Shouldn't you be concentrating on acing the final first?Yellow-Jellow said:Im gettin' a C at my chem 141 class, shoud I retake the class ?
Please spare us that "Busy" B-sh't. All Pre-Med's and Pre-Dent's go through the same sh't.Yellow-Jellow said:I got the C 'cause of my busy scheduale...Im takin chem141 , bio 150 , bio 152 , and pol-sci

I got 2 C's in college but I got into Dental School. (But my overall GPA was okay 3.7)
So, be serious and don't play around too much.
👍

I'm typically a VERY laid back guy who doesn't take many things too personally. But if he said that on the fist day I would have told him to go "**** himself" in front of the whole class. Then I would have switched professorsIcemanDDS said:My orgo I prof said the first day of class "This class is what separates the doctors from the dentists." What's that supposed to mean 😕
CJWolf said:yeah, it's definitely not a true statement. premed people "generally" have higher GPA's overall than dental students. not always true, but generally is.
When I took the DAT I studied with guys taking the MCAT. I think I knew my stuff a little better then them (not trying to be concieted even they admitted it), I got a 24 on the DAT, they got 30 - 35 on MCAT.PreDentJennifer said:Do you have a source for this? I will bluntly say this is a false statement. In addition, I hear people getting into osteopathic medical schools with a 25 MCAT and on a previous thread of people who took both the MCAT and DAT, a 25 MCAT is in the 20's on the DAT = acceptance to dental school. I would like to see a source to your statement though.

For those of you who have C's, D's or W's on your transcript, did any of you get into a dental school without re-taking courses, taking more science classes or going to a post-bacc program?
The odd C here or there is no big deal. I applied so late in the cycle it's not even funny, and with a C- in first-semester organic chem lab. When they asked about it in my interview, I just told them the truth--it was a Thursday 8AM class the day after newspaper production night. I was second in charge of the paper that fall, which meant I was up till 4-5AM every Wednesday night. They accepted it at face value, and it apparently didn't hurt my candidacy. I know plenty of classmates who got in with W's, too. D's are more of a problem and ought to be retaken, but if you do well on the retake it will reflect positively on your application. Good luck!Copacetic52 said:Yea I was wondering the same thing. Anybody?

AADSAS includes all grades even if your college doesn't. So an F (0.0) retaken for a B (3.0) is the equivalent of receiving two grades of C-/D+ (1.5)Jaba said:Can someone also answer thiis: what happens if an F given, does it get calculated into the GPA? and what if you retook it and you earned B, does this get averaged into the GPA, or would the 2nd attempt be counted primarily?

Jaba said:So let me get this right, if I took ie. a full year of chemistry and got an F and I would then repeat the course and get a B, this would count as doing 2 full credits and not just 1 full credit (and averaging them together).
also, is this the chart all universities use? Because I have seen some that round up to the nearest whole number??

Thanks for any further input.
beastly115 said:No, some universities count a B+ as a 3.5 but I'm pretty sure AADSAS will re-calculate it as a 3.33. Other universities completely did away with an A- and getting a 90 in a class is equal to a 4.0.

binsbts said:Now what if I had a F and then I cancelled/withdrew the class and got it as "incomplete"? that's not counted in my GPA right? Wouldnt that be a good idea to do it rather than getting an F and suffer from a low gpa?
