Hello Everyone,

I have been reading the threads on this site and they have been very helpful. So, I decided to ask for some help from you guys. What is the best way to study Organic Reactions for the DAT? I bought the DAT Achiever and it does not explan in detail on organic chemistry reactions. How can I know the end product of a reaction? I thank you all in advance.

take the kaplan rxns and put em on flashcards. if you really want to be smart about it, go through the kaplan rxns, and then buy DAT destroyer. you'll probably be OVERprepared for the orgo and chem once you go through that. good luck:luck:

Thanks for your quick response. I have old Kaplan material from 1998 that includes review notes and DAT Lesson Book. Looking in the Kaplan Organic Chemistry reveiw notes, I still can't seem to get the hang of the reactions. I cannot seem to predict the product. Can you simplify this for me? Any help to this? Thanks

when i started studying for orgo for the DAT, i was over 2 years out of the class because i took it my sophomore year,so i was pretty much at your stage. i read through kaplan review notes once or twice, and then put each reaction on a flashcard. i did/do these flashcards a few times a day, and then took like one page of notes per chapter on theory from the kaplan book. after all this, i got dat destroyer, which basically helps you predict products from every angle and with every combination of reagents and starting materials, possible.

Hey Amsie,,do you feel like the reactions in destroyer are all the ones: like the ones on roadmap?
thanx😉

I think it is useless to memorize all those individual reactions. But remember that LiAlH4 is reducing agent whereas all Cr related stuffs are oxidizing. During the DAT several times I noticed that you can predict the end products. But on the other hand you need to know general stuff about E1 E2 SN1 SN2 reactions as well as activating and deactivating units in molecules. I found ochem on DAT relatively easier than the course that I had to take.

Hello Amsie,

I just spoke with Nancy Steen and she had Dr. Ramano to call me a short moment again. He is going to call me back tonight because he was about to go into a lecture. He will explain to me what the DAT Destroyer is all about and its benefits. I did not expect such personal treatment from them. Thanks.
