Hi all! First I guess I should ask, how bad is it to cancel an interview the day before? I just found out late Friday that I got accepted at a school I would much rather go to than the one I have an interview at. Plus, it's a $300 plane ticket to this interview Tuesday which seems rather wasteful. How should I cancel my interview? Should I tell them that the reason is an acceptance elsewhere? Any advice (on cancelling in general or on what I should tell them) is greatly appreciated!

Well...there's obviously nothing constructive about going to an interview and using up an interviewer's time if you have absoultely no intention of matriculating there. There's nothing wrong with simply letting them know you just received an acceptance to your first choice school and aren't going to go to the interview. You've done nothing wrong. Sure, they won't be able to schedule someone else, but there's no reason for them to think you inconsiderate.

Congrats on your acceptance to numero uno!! yah baby!

dan is right on. I did this last year. Just look at it this way: what are they going to do, reject you? Some schools will ask for confirmation of this in writing. Yeah, like not showing up for the interview isn't confirmation enough? Again, my response to this is the same.

Thanks for your help guys!
