I got an e-mail today for an interview on May 31st. I'm panicking right now, so excuse me if I'm rambling.

About 3 weeks ago, I got a call from them at 5AM ( 😴 Yawn! I think they forgot about the time zone difference) telling me their class was full, but they would possibly offer me an interview for a waitlist spot and that they would call me again next week for an appointment. They said they were "impressed with my background", but I'm assuming they say that to everybody, right? So I called them 2 weeks later, and they said they were still figuring things out. Today, I got an e-mail interview invitation for May 31st and my secondary application at the same time!

I thought that the last interview was April 25th? And that the big deposit was already due? Will I be the only person interviewing on that day? 😱

Man, I am freaking out a little. I wonder why they are making exceptions for me? Plus, I am in the middle of moving into a new place. On top of that, I was so sure I wouldn't get in this year that I applied to teach English overseas, so I don't know if I should stop that application process.

This week is going to be pretty crazy. I have to book plane tickets and hotel, finish this secondary, prepare for the interview, box up my things before the movers come, find someone to cover for me at work.

Overall, I'm excited about it, because it's my first interview - any tips for me? I'm not too confident about my stats (3.1 GPA, 31 MCAT, 2 years ER Volunteer, working as microbio lab assisant at a hospital since graduation June 2006), but at the very least, I'll finally have some interview practice! 🙂

So, I guess I needed to vent a little. I just wanted to see if anyone else thinks this is a strange situation, and to get some words of advice/encouragement you all. Gah, off to continue packing while thinking about this essay!

congrats and relax. just be yourself. the interview is easy if you are a well adjusted person. look around the forums for info, there is a ton of it.

agree with above...plus don't worry about your stats because they were good enough for an interview. They don't care about your numbers anymore. They want to get to know YOU a little better.

Do you have a pre-medical adviser? Ask them about setting up a "practice interview." My undergrad adviser had us do a practice interview with a chemistry professor who did a great job being intense and a little bit too critical...way overkill, but great for preparation. All the real interviews were cake after that!

Good luck on the interview. Also, I saw your join date of 2003 and only 1 post to your name! WOW!

When did you submit your application to AACOMAS? Just wondering because I submitted mine very late and I spoke to Obed last week and he told me they were reviewing my inforation and should receive a response shortly. Hopefully I will get invited on the 31st as well.

Also did the secondary come via email or mail?

Congrats!

My AACOMAS mailing date was 4/1/07. About 1 month later, on 5/1 or 5/2 is when I got the early phone call from Touro.

The secondary came in the same email that contained my interview invitation.

I thought people do secondaries first, then, based on their responses, get an interview invitation. But I guess they are really rushing during this last part of the process. Or, if I'm being super-optimistic, I could be saying that they are bending the rules for me since I'm such a excellent candidate. 😀 Haha, here's hoping!

I'm trying my best to finish the essay tonight or tomorrow night, so they'll receive it before the interview. Or should I take my time with it and hand-deliver it? I tried calling them today, but I got answering machines. I also haven't gotten a confirmation e-mail from them, either. Yikes, this is so nerve-wracking!

Also, anyone have suggestions on cheap hotels in the area? I've never travelled cross-country on such short notice before!

Yeah I would email Obed and ask if you should send it in or just bring it. Seems like its so close that they would probably just want you to bring it. Ive tried calling a number of times but have never gotten anyone, but the times I have emailed Ive gotten a response in a couple days.

As far as hotels...I use to live in NYC and there really is no such thing as a cheap hotel unless you want to stay in one of the Youth Hostels, but that probably is not the best place to prepare for an interview. When my family visited I managed to get a decent priced hotel by naming my own price on priceline. That will be your best bet, it doesnt matter what part of the city you stay in as getting to Tourcom via subway or taxi will be easy.

Best of luck!

I just visited New York in October with a friend for CMJ'06, so I'm somewhat familiar with the subway system (unlimited weekly pass was the greatest idea ever!) and enjoyed staying at the Chelsea Hostel. I'd love to stay there again, but I'm concerned about how much time it will take to get from 20th St. to 125th St. during rush hour.

Most of the big travel sites won't let me narrow my search within New York - I mostly get hotels below Central Park. Any suggestions for a decent hotel in Harlem, preferably close to the school?

im in the same boat, interview on the 30th.

Also 31 on the MCAT and 3.1

When and how did you hear (phone, email, letter)?

I still have heard nothing

This is so weird. If I get the call, I'll be there in a second, but it seems like everytime we think something is strange, they do something like this. Congrats on the interview, good luck to everyone else to get an interview and do well. I can't wait to see how this school develops, whether I get in or not.

Did you also get your secondary and interview invite at the same time? I'm still wondering if it would be better just to hand-deliver my secondary, but I haven't received an answer yet (can't seem to contact anyone via email or telephone).
