Hello everyone, I've just joined and would like some advice. Here's my academic history and would like some suggestions. I already have a BFA from an arts school, where I did terribly (2.6 GPA). Then, I decided to study languages at my public college (City College of New York), where I got a 3.9 GPA, but I didn't graduate from there. Then, I transferred to Columbia Univeristy, where I'm still studying language (Latin). Now, I want to study medicine, but I'd like to finish this second bachelor's in Latin and graduate. I was thinking about completing the physics and math requirements at Columbia, because that would satisfy my core requirements, and then I was thinking I'd complete my bio and chem at another university, preferably not in NYC. Does anyone think that this is a sound idea? How much will my BFA's GPA factor into this equation? Overall, what should I do?

I don't know if this is what you're looking for but...

What school are you currently registered under at Columbia? You probably wouldn't qualify for their postbac program, but what you could do is try to do an internal transfer to the school of General Studies, where the Postbacc Program is run out of. They would allow you to complete your Latin degree at the same time as you complete your premed requirements. Ultimately this would allow you to get your GPA there and qualify for a committee letter eventually.

Actually, I am in the School of General Studies as a BA student, and in order to make this brief, I can but won't do a premedical concentration (That would take too long of an explanation.); moreover, I'd like to graduate with a Latin degree and not worry too much about science right now. I was thinking of finishing my math requirements, which I am in the process of doing, and then I was thinking about completing my physics requirements. Then, I'd be about ready to graduate, because I will have satisfied the science and quantitative requirements of the core curriculum, although I would still need bio and chem to apply to medical school. At any rate, I should tell you the truth. I love being at Columbia, but I can't stand being in New York City anymore, so I'd like to finish my degree in a subject that I love, and later I'll continue my science studies elsewhere. How does that sound? Oh, I calculated my GPA, and it is roughly a 3.3 right now.
