Hey guys,

I need to give a 10 min speech on a controversial topic, in an effort to persuade the audience in one direction or another. My last few speeches have all been animal related. I want to give a speech that is not animal related. You may wonder why I'm asking for help here then? I guess because I'm looking for a variety of views, and because I know you are all intelligent people. 😉

So "my" guidelines are this:
1) must be of social significance
2) must be of interest to an audience of undergraduate students from a variety of majors
3) if it is animal related it needs to be at least equally human related
4) must be researchable; probably need to be able to cite at least 6 - 8 sources of information
5) and finally, I know this makes it tough, but it must be something unique (i.e. not about the war, the gas prices, stuff that's on the front page of the news everyday). reason for this is we don't want 10 people giving speeches on the same topic.

example topic: "breed specific legislation unjustly punishes innocent dog owners" (this is my backup topic in case I can't think of anything else by tomorrow)

Thanks for any help! I know it's sunday but put your thinking caps on just for a little bit . . . please??
👍

What about the pros or cons of outsourcing. I am sure there are more than enough sources to help you out on this controversial topic. This is a topic that affects us all and I am sure the class, and the prof, will pay attention as a result. Just a thought...

I did this for a speech in my oral communications class. I know its animal related but it works quite well, especially when you argue it from this side. Personally as an "aggressive dog breed" owner (3 super friendly german shepherds), I don't see how anyone can support such ridiculous discrimination, but thats just me 😉

Non animal related, I always liked to do the "become an organ donor speech". Its easy to argue and you also have a pretty good chance of swaying someone into action, especially if you take the little organ donor cards for people to fill out after the speech!

Good luck.
