So I just applied to Harvard Extension's Health Careers program but am worried about being able to finance living in Boston as I'm just about to graduate college and have no job lined up or funds whatsoever. There's this school in my home town that I was considering taking some classes at instead, but I'm not sure if it's considered a community college.

Here's a link to their website:

It's definitely not equivalent to HES but I'm wondering if it'd be worth taking classes here just to take off the financial burden of living in Boston/ having to pay for rent.

What do you guys think?

At the end of the day, your goal should be great grades. If the financial stress of Harvard + cost of living in Boston starts to get to you and hinders your performance, it won't be worth it. It seems like that would be the case, especially if you're already worried. If the question of "why CC?" comes up, you can explain that you wanted to make a mature, sustainable decision.

Except that if you are in grade-recovery mode and go to a CC - they might not even give you a chance to be asked that (as in they don't offer you an interview, and thus a chance to discuss this).

I am of the opinion that CC is almost never the answer to a question for someone with medical/dental school in mind. If you crash out with a 1.X GPA and need to settle down and take a course or two to get back into the groove before moving onto a 4-yr, fine. But if you are planning on wowing someone with a 4.0 and a rinky-dink CC? not going to happen very often
