Hello guys this is my first post in this forums 🙂, im overthinking this 24/7 im a dental student and im thinking about switching to satisfy my self, though i feel its the wrong decision but i have a little passion for psychiatry doctors but what is really bothering me is the long study years as you all know i have to finish the school then start a residency... i like that i dont have to work that long and that hard for dentistry and i feel its the right thing for me to stay in dental school.. sry i know this is confusing but im at a point i dont know anything i dont even know what to do im sad and angry lol i hope u help me 🙂 <3 i will really appreciate any help that will help me deciding.

Okay from what I'm gathering from your post.
1. You are currently in dental school
2. You potentially want to be a psychiatrist

Alright so are you saying you want to go back to school (undergrad) and apply for med school? Then from that point are you wondering what your major should be if you go back to school? Sorry the post was pretty confusing. Also what year are you in D-school?

yea english is my second language :'D Im in my first year of dental school and in my country i can immediatly switch to medical school without going undergrade, to try to clear the confusion in my mind and in the post i mean what is pushing me away of medicine is the long years, though i have a little passion for psychiatry speciality and i have another hobbies aside college too like pc programming and stuff, i need to have time for them so i consider dental school is better for me though i dont have that passion for dental? lol, so should i follow my heart and go medicine or be logical and stay in dentistry ? 🙂

if i were you, i would stick to dentistry. who knows, you may like dentistry down the line.

i wouldnt go for medicine, specifically psychiatry, for two reasons

1. it takes too long, specially since timing was one of your concerns. pre-med is gonna take 2-3 more yrs then add on another 8 yrs for med school and residency. (also, the MCAT is very difficult for those of us who arent strong/fast readers)

2. what if you dont get matched into psychiatry? how would you know you will like your non-psychiatry residency more than dentistry?

Thanks for reply, but my country education system is different as it will take for me to be a psychiatrist 7 years of learning med school and 4 years of residency or maybe 5 so its 5+7 compared to 6 years of dentistry school here, i just cant decide whether to go for my passion in psychiatry or my another passion for not wasting my prime years ( my twenties ) and go for dentistry ? which decision i will regret the most

Well you're going to get a very biased answer here in the pre-dental forum lol

But I think you should go for your passion. Your "prime years" are the years you'll be happiest doing what you like to do for a living. There's no rush to finish everything in your 20s, you have the rest of your life still ahead of you.
