Hey everyone. Long time lurker here. Heres my case:

A long time ago I enrolled into one of the hardest schools in my region. However, in my two years there I did very poorly for various reasons. Partly because I was not motivated, had relationship issues and mostly because my academics was very demanding particularly at my institution.

After failing and wasting my two years. I still did not give up on my dreams on becoming a physician. I was very depressed and uncertain at that time I remember. I needed to start fresh and ended up going to another university. Since then I've just finished my third year and have a cGPA of 3.6 and will be writing my MCAT this summer. I do have extracurricular activities under my belt and some excellent referees.

Now all this time, for all these years I was thinking of withholding my past from the adcom because I don't want the marks from my first two years to be calculated. But at the same time, wouldn't the adcom want to know more about my character and my motivation for pursuing medicine.

What should I do? If you want more information about this please ask.

is your cGPA a 3.6 with the "failing?" I can imagine some F's being much greater torpedoes. What about your science gpa? You can't give us just some of the facts.

If you get found out for lying to them you will get screwed. You MUST give them all transcripts. Check out the DO route.

Unfortunately, you can't withhold the coursework you did at your first school. All the college classes you've taken will be factored into the gpa that adcoms will see.

I'm sorry my 3.6 cGPA does not include my failed years. I havn't calculated my sGPA yet but from the looks of it, it wont be that far off from my cGPA.

Lets just say that my first two years were riddled with F's and D's. Definitely nothing spectacular. That's why I'm afraid that if I disclose my past, it would be calculated with my current GPA.

I'm from Canada and I will be applying to schools in the U.S. I was under the impression that the adcom would not be able to find out.

poor choice bud.

Well your going to have to make something up then - and pray they don't check into it. Imagine getting booted after 2-3 years with 150k in debt.

But you're going to need a pretty high mcat to get in as a canadian anyways - so goodluck.

Yeah your old grades do factor in. If anything, I'd recommend that you take some post-bac science classes to demonstrate that you can handle them. That would also shift some of the weight off of these first classes.
