So I have about 2.5 months of summer left, and I am deciding which is the best use of my time. Here are my options:
1) volunteer in a dental office and shadow at the same time ( I already have some shadowing hours)
2) volunteer in a medical research lab
3) volunteer in community organizations working with low income children and families
which would you pick? of course I also have other stuff going on, but I am trying to see which volunteer activity is most worth it and and which is most beneficial to dental school admissions. I am applying to dental school in 2011. however, I already plan on doing research during the school year and also doing dental volunteering/ shadowing, but my dental experiences during the school year will be limited bc I need time to study.
So considering all of this, which volunteer activity is best to do during the summer?

To be honest, all of those seem like good activities to do over the summer. Given what you've said though, maybe you want to try volunteering in the community? If you're already going to be researching during the semester, and a bit of shadowing as well, it might bring some variety to try something different over the summer. Of course, you can always do both volunteering and shadowing over the summer if you have the time for both, which is what I'm planning to do if everything works out!

Good luck with whatever you choose! They sound like really cool plans.

How many hrs shadowing do you already have? If at least 40, I'd say go for the community service and try to squeeze in more hrs shadowing on the side, even if it's only 1-2 hrs/week.

The best thing to do is the one that you will be the most passionate about. All things aside, volunteering is always an asset. Why not balance your time and do several of the above?
