Hi everyone,

Would you guys be kind enough to help me plz? I am planning to ask for LOR from 3 different people (1 from my Biochemistry professor, 1 from Physics prof) and the other I don't know who I should ask. Should I ask my supervisor who oversee me working as a research assistant in a Biomedical lab for the past 2 years or should I ask a pharmacist who I've been shadowing for the past 2 months? I know that my boss would be a better person to write me a STRONGER LOR since he really knows me; but I feel that his LOR would not really be helpful because the work I've done in his lab is more about research and graduate school, not pharmacy school. However, if I were to ask my pharmacist to write me a LOR, would she knows enough about me to write a concrete letter? Who should I ask guys? Please give me your advice. Thank you so much for your help!!!

What does YOUR SCHOOL require? The school to which you are applying may have criteria for the LOR; you really should follow that, rather than ask people who don't know your situation. Does YOUR SCHOOL require a LOR from a pharmacist?

Some schools require a pharmacist LOR.. Which schools are you applying to? Since you have the option, I think it would be better to ask the pharmacist.. Perhaps you should spend more time getting to know the pharmacist so that they can write a strong, personalized LOR.

Thank you so much eelo and k0ni for your quick replies. I really appreciate your advices! Well, the school I'm planning to apply just required a LOR from a supervisor and 2 from math and science faculties. So should I go ahead and ask my supervisor in the hospital (pharmacy department) or my boss (Ph.D in Developmental Biology) ?

To add to the previous comments, do remember that one PharmCAS application goes out to every school. If you plan to apply to a number of schools that require a pharmacy LOR, then you probably should designate one of your only three LORs to that pharmacist regardless of the strength of said letter. If you feel like the letter will be weak and counterproductive, then it's better not to apply to schools that require pharmacy LORs

If you think the pharmacist doesn't know enough about you to write you an LOR, you can always give them information to write about you. To get my LORS, I submitted a 3-4 page detailed letter about myself. In it I included why I wanted to go into pharmacy, my extracurriculars and work experience, what I think pharmacy schools are looking for in their candidates and the strengths that I have. Maybe you should give your pharmacist some info about yourself and what you would like them to include in your letter. It's really helpful for them. One of my friends who is now a p2 at ucsf taught me to do that
