I just got into Tufts today!! I am soooo amazingly excited and blessed, but also my decision is now further complicated....

UPenn, Tufts, or Maryland?!? I honestly loved them all and I don't have any way to differentiate (cost, awesome location, great schools, strong clinics)...

Does anyone have some advice? Please help me out. I cannot stop deliberating and worrying and I want to sit back and enjoy the fact that I am FINALLY in haha. Any suggestions are appreciated!! 😕

i also just got into tufts, and am deciding between tufts, maryland, and vcu. tufts and maryland seemed very similar to me with the new facilities and larger class size. all had strong clinic focus.

First of all, congrats! 😀

There's a Maryland dental student that has been posting some not so nice things about the school. I'm not sure if you should believe it, but I think it's definitely something worth looking into. You can find their posts on some of the other Maryland threads.

Good luck with your decision! 🙂

i have seen those negative maryland posts. since it was just one poster repeatedly being negative, i wasn't going to put a ton of weight into what they were saying.

Thanks for your input and congrats, mbkmr and hail2pitt! I've also seen those negative Maryland posts, but since it's just one student I am hesitant to put much stock in his complaints....from my visit and other posts, I haven't heard anything (else) negative about Maryland, and I don't want to bias my choice because of an unhappy student posting on a pre-dental forum lol...

That being said, what would you choose if you were in my situation and why??

I would choose any other school beside Maryland. Do you have any specific questions about Maryland?

I guess I am just kind of skeptical because every other poster from Maryland seems happy with their choice, and I REALLY loved the school when I visited. Can you please explain what you mean when you say students don't help each other out, that there aren't enough professors, and that classes are too big?

I'm just confused because everyone knows Maryland is a good school so there will obviously be some gunners in the class. I find it hard to believe that EVERY student is rude and super competitive. Also, has the school recently increased class size or something? How can classrooms be overcrowded/too big?

From my interview day, I got a wonderful vibe from the school, students, and faculty. They all seemed genuinely happy and content to be there. Maybe if you could explain your complaints a little more thoroughly, we could better understand the school's possible drawbacks. Thank you, supermax.

They pick the dental students for interview tour/etc so they can sell good stuff about the school. Classes are big because we have 130 spots and few others with graduate students. Some courses are taken with med., graduate, international students.

Wow, congrats!! I have interviews at these schools coming up (all within a week of each other lol) and they are definitely my top picks!

I honestly wouldn't trust all that you see on sdn 🙂 Try to get in touch with students from each school -- literally, see if you can speak to them on the phone. I highly doubt classes are overcrowded at MD; one of my good friends just graduated from there and said almost no one went to lecture bc MD records all the lectures so you can just watch them at 2x speed. So yeah...probably not many overcrowded lecture halls!
