Hi OP,

BOth schools have their pros and cons., If you pick one over the other, you gain one thing but lose another. Go with your heart. Choose the school you feel the best about.

Good luck and congratulations!

Go With LECOM faster and cheaper, no bf = more time to study, also better for your relationship ship. My couselor once said, if you wanna break up with ur bf or gf, decide to go to college together.

How about using NAPLEX passing rate as a metric in your decision also?

LECOM - 390 Candidates since 2005 with an 88.98% pass rate.

Temple - 660 candidates since 2004 wth a 90.91% pass rate.

Temple has had 59% more candidates than LECOM has, and has a statistically better chance of getting you through the NAPLEX on the first time.

I'd go with Temple. You may get out a year earlier at LECOM-E but the school you choose will be with you forever. You may also be able to get in-state tuition at Temple if you know where to look.

Your counselor should have also said that long distance relationships rarely ever work out.

No, I already talked to their financial aid office. THere are no way I can be able to get in-state tuition at Temple. they told me I can be a pensylvania resident after a year but not eligible for the in state tuition🙁
I have question for you.. What do you mean the school I choose will be w/ me forever? Is temple better than LECOM?

umm.....

Sickle means that when you apply for pharmacy jobs, your alma mater might make a difference in opportunities.

As it stands now, the difference between LECOM and Temple is probably so minute that the "A Pharm.D is a Pharm.D" clause applies. If you were to compare Temple to UCSF or UCSD that might be a difference worth noting.

In my opinion, go to Lecom. It is the cheapest. Why would you waste 80k on just 4 years? it will depend on you to pass the naplex but the number "passing rate". In addition, you can always visit your boyfriend over summer, or he can fly over. I am sure that it will be much cheaper for him to visit you than going to Temple and waste 80k. I could buy a house with 80k.

Another reason why you should not go temple: this profession is no longer guaranteed to find a job upon graduation. You should consider a long term benefit.

yay~I just got into the temple pharmacy school. I was on waiting list for a long time. I already got accepted to the LECOM erie about 4-5 months.
I paid deposit for both schools now so I have time to think about it more.
I need your advice.

1)LECOM
pros: cheap (~100-120k for 3yrs), 3-year program,
cons: cold, no family or friends in the area. less reputation(?)
far from where my boyfriend lives(I like this guy alot),safe
2)TEMPLE
pros: my boyfriend lives here in phily( I can see him everyday)
more reputation(?)-maybe easier to get a job after graduation
good restaurants
cons:very expensive(~200k for 4yrs, I am out of state student),
unsafe
what do you think? this is very hard to decide. any thought? if I choose LECOM I will have less debt but I would miss my boyfriend or vice versa.
which school should I go? which school would prepare me more?

Do what is right for you. You should definitely go to lecom because it is cheaper. I know that you have no family in the area and your BF is far away, but Lecom is still a better choice. Think longterm too. Do you want to graduate from pharm school and spending more time trying to pay back loans when you should have gone to a cheaper school? Another thing, what if your boyfriend breaks your heart one day? You would probably regret why you didnt attend the cheaper school. If you guys were engaged, then you can decide to go to temple. However, you guys are not engaged and the relationship might end anytime. if he breaks your heart, you might spend the next few years regreting why you didnt go cheap. I have a girlfriend too whom i love so much, but i would rather go to a cheaper school where i can save more money. The naplex passing rates for both schools are not too different either.

easy solution find a new bf...anyway if I were you I would go to lecom, its cheaper, faster and if your bf really cares he would visit if not, find a new one

Really? If that's the case, you should choose LECOM but I do know that getting in-state tuition can be done at Temple. A very small handful of students, from what I hear, fight for in-state tuition each year and get it but it's a big risk to take if the out-of-state tuition is a deal breaker for you.

By the way, isn't it too late to attend LECOM because you're supposed to accumulate X number of intern hours before school starts?

Based on this linked thread you started, you should definitely go to Temple. Give your boyfriend a chance to see his kid on a regular basis. In this situation, family is more important than price or school reputation (in my opinion). http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=628619

I agree with you that family is important. However, Family should also encourage you to make smart decisions so that they don't become strapped in debt. If it was my family, they would encourage me to go cheaper. They know this would help me. Family is important but that doesnt mean they should cause you to make the wrong decision. If they are truly family, they would support your decision because they know you would be back.

If there is a child involved, I agree that you should choose Temple. Yes, LECOM is cheaper but in the grand scheme of things that money isn't worth nearly as much as your boyfriend having a real relationship with your child. In twenty years, when the loans are all paid back, you are hardly going to remember what the money was spent on. Those first few years are so important to a young child and you don't get that time back. I'm pretty sure that my child would not be as happy with more toys or a bigger house or a nicer car if it meant she didn't get to see daddy as often.

This is a tough one..

Just tell your boyfriend to move with you to Erie, and your set in 3 years!

They are not even engaged!!! IF they were engaged or something, I would understand lol.

Wait, put on the brakes.

Jenny2007 has had two posts in this thread she started.

Maybe I'm missing a deleted post or you guys know something I do not, but why are you suddenly talking about children?

umm.....

She mentioned that she was pregnant in another thread.

Engaged or not, he still will be a father to the baby even if they break up, assuming there is a baby. Some things are worth more than money and I think that a parent-child relationship is one of those things. And it is not like Jenny would be choosing abject poverty if she went to Temple. She will just be paying off the debt longer.

whichever choice the OP makes, she has to decide quickly, i believe both schools begin in less than a month....time is of the essence.

I like how she found out about her pregnancy on 05-17-2009 but then her delivery date is in FEB 2009.

The sad face after "abortion is not an option" also is interesting.

Is that really that bad? I found out that I was pregnant in November and had a due date in August. A normal pregnancy is forty weeks. This doesn't sound out of the ordinary to me.

May 17th 2009. <--- Found out
February 2009. <-- Due date

I may have been knocked around a few times in Iraq but I am still pretty damn sure that February comes before May.

if your pregnant i'd go with the choice where your boyfriend will be near you...he will have to help out with the child and everything...its just too difficult and distracting to handle it on your own while in school...

and yes a normal pregnancy is less than a full year so I'm not surprised at her expected date

I assume that is a typo and she meant 2010. The dates just don't seem outside of the ordinary to me.

Bluesickle and I were only talking about it because she didn't write the correct year.

I would hope everyone on this board is roughly familiar with the period of human gestation.

That is exactly my point. There is no baby involved for now so it is better for her to save money. That is why I stressed that it depends on the circumstance. However, the op's situation now has made me believe that the best thing for now is for her to save money. She must think of her longterm goalsShe should try to have less debt if she can. However, we are talking of Temple and Lecom which are not too different. If it was UCSF, then it makes a whole big difference.

Does anyone knows each school's attrition rate?

Does anyone knows each school's attrition rate?

Please, Jenny, make your decision soon! There are anxious applicants on waiting lists for both of these schools - and if you choose Temple, maybe I'll be lucky enough to get called off Erie's wait list (and save myself >50g)!:xf:
