Which gaming console should I buy?

I am hesitating between PS3 and Xbox360.

I would like to play mainly multiplayer online, casual, no more than 1-2 hours per week.

yeah this IS a big one. I went xbox even with the cooling issue. I dont know now tho, you got bluray on the PS3....that is hard. There is better multiplayer action (sounds naughty as I type that...) on the xbox.

Make a list of the games you play: COD, LfDead, ACreed etc. and make sure you can play those on PS3.

Then pray and meditate on it, hope the good Lord guides your hand.

g'luck

I have both.

Much better online multiplayer with XB360.

Otherwise, I think both systems have huge pros and cons making them overall equal. If you're a gamer (or have $), get both.

The Wii is a piece of $hit. It's for children under 10 and people who think the carnival or Dave and Busters is fun.

really casual players (1-2hrs/wk) like you are better suited for ps3 multiplayer, skill-wise. you'll have a hard time getting a positive ratio on the 360 with games like cod.

pwnd. to the dome.

There seems to be a consensus that Xbox360 is superior to Playstation3 in terms of the multiplayer experience. Why is that?

ladoc, i picture you as a riot shield turtle. confirm/deny.

The riot shield is SWEET. That is my "no1 go to" when suckering in new players to do a split-screen versus match on.

Just saw this:

Murray, the No. 4 ranked player in the world, was dumped by his long-time girlfriend Kim Sears due, in part, to the fact that he spent up to seven hours a day playing video games.

Most guys who play seven hours of video games per day don't even know what a real woman looks like, let alone dates one as gorgeous as Kim Sears. I'd think this is an inspiring tale to the video game generation. Sure, it seems crazy that Murray would play more with his PS3 than his girlfriend but, come on, have you seen Modern Warfare 2?

Please the guy is a professional athlete and in this day and age athletes are like rockstars. Girls like that are a dime a dozen for athletes, rockstars, Hollywood types. Murray could call Michele fox, Erin Andrews, Lindsey Lohan, or any Victoria secret model and invite her to Wimbledon or Roland garos and he'd be hitting that after his five setter with nadal.

Where tiger went wrong is mixing it up with cocktail waitresses. He should have stuck with celebrity models and actresses. Girls that wouldn't roll on him for a mere 50k payment from the national enquirer.

XBox 360..... More importantly should I pull the trigger on getting an Optoma 1080p projector to play games and watch sports and movies on...or hold out for an LED set?

So yesterday I have become a happy owner of an Xbox360, and Modern Warfare 2. Unfortunately, my plans of spending most of the weekend playing have been so far ruined by my girlfriend who wants to stay over.

I also have trouble connecting to xbox live.

This is where you get her to come over, and teach her how to play CoD2.

Even if she isn't a gamer, this would be a great way for you both to have some fun doing something new. Plus, who wouldn't be entertained by the airport scene - entertained in the staring at a car crash way - but entertained nonetheless.

Wait, can pathologists afford an Xbox or Ps3 in todays job market? ?

?

So far I'm getting my arse delivered to me in deathmatches.

What is the best way to use riot shield? It protects me for a bit but I can't kill squat. And then as soon as they see me they just throw a grenade. And these two secondary machine guns have really bad accuracy.

I am getting better kill/death ratio using the sniper rifle with heartbeat sensor. Most of the game I just try to hide and snipe people from distance. My aim is atrocious, and for some reasons people just won't stay still when you try to get a headshot.

Yeah if you like to play video games, get a xbox. If you don't think you will play that much but want to for sure get the blue ray...get the ps3

Just thought I'd add the opinion of someone who isn't a huge FPS fan.

PS3 - as FFXIII will be available on the 360 as well, there isn't really any reason to spend the bucks on a PS3 unless you were planning on buying a BluRay player anyway. I will say that the Ratchet and Clank: Future games are totally fun though.

XBox360 - We actually use ours to stream Netflix and watch TV shows recorded on our Media Center PC as much or more than we play games on it. My system of choice for Rockband/Guitar Hero.

Wii - I agree that 95% of the games are utter crap marketed to children, but the Nintendo titles (i.e. Zelda, Mario Kart, Super Paper Mario, Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros, etc.) are fantastic and the sports and party games are fun, if, as the flow chart implies, one has friends in real life available to play them with.

I bought the PS3 last week (total impulse buy), partly for GTA4 and partly for the instant netflix on my living room TV. As far as gameplay is concerned im not thrilled about GTA4 on the PS3, I do like the blue-ray capability on PS3 but the streaming netflix over the PS3 isn't as great as I thought it would be. I was trying to watch some classic Miami Vice over the PS3 netflix and it cut me off a couple of times and does not have all of the episodes on the menu options. 🙁

Go with the PS3 slim. Now that the two are basically the same price, you get a lot more bang for your buck with the PS3. I just got a new X-Box 360 Holiday Elite bundle, and sold it on Craigslist in order to get a PS3. THere are great deals to be had right now (I sold the X-Box for $290 cash and bought a new PS3 at Sears for $240!). THere are lots of reviews and comparisons out there for these two units. WHat it boiled down to for me was:
1. X-box -you need to pay for the "live" service- $50/yr. IF you're not a hardcore nerd, can you justify that expense?
2. X-Boxes have known hardware issues, like the "red ring of death". PS3s tend to not fail as often.
3. PS3 comes with a free Blu Ray DVD player. (huge). THe PS3 content is on this format, so the games/etc can be much larger.
4. New, smaller PS3 looks better, runs cooler.
5. PS3 has built-in wireless networking.
6. The number and quality of games was a draw for me. So was the ability to play Netflix (I just ordered a free Netflix disk).

Good luck, we're all counting on you.

PS3. Blu ray, reliable, upcoming gran turismo 5 and ps2 backwards compatibility for some models (main reason for me getting one vs 360), other good exclusives. Get a refurbished/used ps2-backwards compatible one if you can- they go for about the same price as a new slim ps3. Playing ps2 titles on an hdtv with unlimited memory cards, upscaling, smoothing, an inbuilt hard drive, and with wireless controllers are huge pros. And of course, it plays ps3 titles as well.

Anyone playing L4D2 on PC? Good times... let me know, I'll add you to my friend's list.

DBH

I'd go for a Socrates instead:

Had one when I was a kid. Rocked the pants off NES.

Pretty solid graphics, plenty of hangman pwnage, lots of raging and throwing the cord-attached controller back at the keyboard.

So I pulled the trigger on the 1080p projector, not that anyone else seemed to care because I didn't get any advice from my post above. Let's just say you haven't played xbox unless you've played xbox in 1080p on a 100 inch screen....its awesome....best 1000 bucks I ever spent..... movies and sports look awesome too. Multiplayer with a huge screen is unbelievable. The Optoma HD20 is a freakin bargain and I highly recommend it.👍

I had one too, but sold it on ebay after I couldn't find a wall big enough for the picture in my new apartment...

All I can say is NFL in HD! 😍 God I miss that projector...

anyone else have trouble connecting to multiplayer mode in modern warfare 2? I can't ever find a game!

I think it's EPIC FAIL that the new PS3 SLIM is not backwards compatible. I was going to buy one until I realized I would not be able to play any PS2 games on it!

So now I am on the likely fruitless hunt for a backwards-compatible fat PS3.
