Hi everyone,

I am currently a rising senior applying to medical schools this summer (my primary is still under the process of verification). Can anyone tell me if I can still apply to medical schools if I completed 1 semester of bio lab but planning to fulfill the second semester of bio lab next semester? (My fall semester of senior year)

Thanks!

Varies by school but most are okay with completing the pre-reqs by matriculation rather than by application.

Did you list the course under "current/future coursework"? I am unsure exactly how each medical school handles these situations, but as long as you will have the course completed upon matriculation then I do not think it is an issue. Some schools might be wary if a student has a high GPA in a non-science major but has not attempted organic chemistry for example. If you on the other hand have a very satisfying GPA and MCAT in multiple science courses and a biology lab is your only course left. I do not see this keeping you out of consideration at all. You of course would have the pressure of passing the course, but I think you can handle that!

I would wait on some other feedback though. I could be wrong on this one. Good Luck!

Pre requisite courses are required to be completed before matriculation at most schools

Thank you all for the quick responses!

Unfortunately I am also missing the 2nd semester of english requirement as well, but from what I searched on the forums I was told that it shouldn't matter much. However, since this was a science requirement, I wasn't sure if this would "weigh" more.

And yes I did put down both my bio lab and english course down as future coursework. However, should I email each individual school to let them know? Or was writing down the two courses as future coursework enough for them to see that?

If it matters, I have 2.5 years of researching in a lab and I have a ~3.8 science GPA with upper level science classes (Genetics, Biochem, Physiology).

You're over-thinking this and freaking out about nothing. Your pre-reqs have to be done by the time you MATRICULATE, not by the time you apply. In the spring before matriculation, you have to submit your final transcript to show that you have completed everything. There may be a couple exceptions, so check out the individual websites of the schools you're applying to, but you're fine at the vast majority of schools.
