Hi all,

I am not a pre-vet or vet student, but I am here because my parakeet of 8 years is really sick. I know I am not supposed to seek advice on SDN on matters of this nature, but I am really hoping that I could get some input/insight from you looking forward to or actually practicing in the field of vet medicine.

I am not with my bird right now (I am on the other side of the continent), but I was told by my sibling that my bird wasn't eating this afternoon. it threw up everything that it ate this morning. it was still fairly active this afternoon, flying around and everything. now it is laying on the bottom of the bird cage, not moving, with its eyes closed... it can't even stand up...it's stool was all watery. all this without any indication last night. it was acting its normal self yesterday. my brother wanted to bring it to a vet today, but there isn't a vet who deals with birds around for miles...

is there anything I could do at this point? does anyone have any clue what might have caused this? i can't type anymore, my eyes are getting teary just thinking about my bird. is it too late? can someone help???

Someone needs to take your bird to a vet. Did you look online to see if there's a nearby avian vet? (there's the website below, try searching by area code, I think it gives broader results.) Otherwise call around. My area doesn't list anyone, but I know that's not correct. Good luck.

i'm sorry your bird isn't doing well. Its really difficult to speculate about what is going on without seeing your bird inperson. The best advice anybody here can give you is to get your bird in to see your vet as soon as you can.

best of luck.

it is currently around midnight back home. according to the website, the nearest avian vet is some 4 hours away 🙁 if my sibling were to bring our bird to a local, non-avian, vet, tomorrow morning, would the vet be able to do anything? i hope i'll get a call from my brother tomorrow that our bird is up and walking on the carpet and won't have to cry myself to sleep

awww how sad...

Please keep trying to find a vet, as that is the only advice vet students can give you, legally and under SDN terms of service.

Closing thread.
