Help, Ohio State, UoP, Roseman???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Unless you want to stay in Utah, UoP all the way

Definitely Roseman!!

Its an amazingly innovative school and they've completely restructured the educational system, from the curriculum to the construction of the building. The school is basically on the forefront of dental education because they are implementing and resolving all of the traditional problems with dental education.

Also, you will have much more normal and happy 4 years of dental school (also known as "life") if you choose Roseman. Ohio, and particularly UOP which is accelerated, have very jam packed stressful schedules. Sure students love those schools, but doesnt take away from the fact that they are constantly looking like and feeling like zombies for the 4 years they are in school.

The cherry on top is that Roseman's faculty and administration and students were the nicest, kindest, happiest, most respectful bunch of people out of any other school Ive been too.

The only reason you should pick UOP is if you really want to save an extra year not being in school, and if youd rather live in the infamously expensive city of San Francisco where you can barely afford toilet paper after paying rent and utilities. haha.

I'd have to say U of P.

Only because you have one less YEAR of school!

If I were you, I'd hit that while giving a monologue!

what is an advantage of going to uop besides 3 yr program? i'm geniuly curious.

a lot of private school already provide a great clinical program, strong classmates/faculty relationship, are in nice cities (some schools)

PS And what about 1 yr extra income & most stressful 3y versus 4 yr regular not-so-much stressful enviornment and more time to develop dexteriorty?
Don't get me wrong! I heard it is an amazingly great school! I just wanna konw if all the hypes are true.

A big part of UoP's awesomeness is how happy students are there. Sure its hard work, accelerated, whatever. However, students who graduate from UoP love the school. This is reflected in how high the alumni donations they receive. I've also heard UoP faculty treat students more as colleagues rather than a teacher-student hierarchy.

some of private schools already do those too. hmmm
i guess uop is well advertised. i still think that the biggest thing for uop is a 3yr program

These are some pretty big assumptions for a school that hasn't even had a class for a full year, let alone graduated a class.

Personally, i would much rather attend a school with a long standing track record of success vs a school that is starting from ground 0. The fact is Roseman can say anything they want, but they have nothing to back it up. No board scores, no clinical experience, just a fancy new clinic, and one of the most expensive price tags in the country.

I am not shooting down Roseman, because i am sure they will be a be a great program. However they have not proven to do so thus far.

In fact i think both UOP and Ohio State are cheaper than Roseman.... ya kind of a big deal.

DMDvsDDS,
Besides the 3 year program... UOP has a proven track record of producing top notch clinicians. It is respected amongst the entire dental community as being amazing. And furthermore Arthur Dugoni (founder of UOPCOD) basically revolutionized dental education.

In defense of Roseman I have to say that it is run by faculty with years of experience in dental school administration. it is by no means run by amateurs. they are developing the academic program and clinical program so that they produce graduates who do well on the boards, and have great clinical experience. can I back that up with proof? no, but people said the same thing about MWU-AZ when it first came out and now it is a pretty respectable school.

not too familiar with ohio state or UoP, sorry

UoP, the one school I would have considered over OSU (and the one school that rejected me). Go for it.

osu or UoP. NOT ROSEMAN. This isn't Dallin's roommate is it?

Graduating a year earlier is one of the perks about uop, but not "the biggest" I would say. The entire program is setup well. Other schools learn from uop and uop is one of the most innovated programs in the country. There's a reason why it is the top choice for many pre-dents, and it's not just because it's only 3 years long.

I would go to the school that you felt the most comfortable in. The one that you liked the most and in that environment that you feel you would succeed the best in.

UoP or ohio for sure!!!!!!

a quick question for ya
how would you compare uop with MWU-AZ and ASDOH? all three very similar but uop has better reputation and one year shoter.

That would be one of the hardest decisions of my life. UOP is without a doubt the most respected and well established of the 3.

The decision would be more between UOP and ASDOH. MWU is an amazing school, with top notch faculty and facilities, however it is significantly more expensive and i only live about 10 minutes away from ASDOH. Price between UOP and ASDOH isn't a significant difference.

A couple of my mentors went to UOP and one is adjunct faculty there, i know the program is one of the most quality in the nation and i would not regret going there. The clinical exposure and 3 year program would be a big deal for me. Plus i think living in San Francisco would be an amazing experience.

However, it would be difficult to choose over ASDOH because they do so many things i like. I love the modular program, the dual MPH program, boards after first year, and their clinical education. I currently volunteer at a clinic where ASDOH students do there rotations and just last week, while i was volunteering, the D4 i was working with performed about 13 extractions (one case was about 8 mandibular extractions itself), 2 crown preps, and a class V restoration. And that was just in one day... Plus my wife is currently a teacher in the east valley and loves the school she works at. We also would like to start having kids maybe my 3rd or 4th year, so having family around for that would be nice. However, i have been in the valley most of my life, so it would be nice to get away.

Lastly, i am a big advocate for price. So if i was accepted to Buffalo, West Virginia, or any place that was significantly cheaper, it would make the decision even more complicated.

EDIT: A6... What are your thoughts on the same situation?

Biased. Roseman was the only acceptance you got. Not that there's anything wrong with that, as I only have one acceptance. But be realistic. U o P has a great rep. I haven't heard much about Ohio. I haven't been to Roseman but you can't even compare it to established schools that have excelled. U o P gets my vote unless Ohio is cheap.

Help, I've been accepted to both UNLV and Roseman and while I like both the 90% min to pass at roseman seems tough yet the full class schedule at a traditional school (UNLV) will be tough too. any advice?

Thanks everybody, Yeah honestly UoP was my top choice when I applied but I really liked my interview at Ohio State, and I played college football and love it so talking with the few friends that are students there it seemed like I would like being able to unwind with the sports atmosphere there.

I actually only applied to Roseman because my mom wanted me to stay in Utah but I was impressed when I interviewed. It was really nice being new but I liked the way they do classes and honestly their students seemed the least stressed I'd seen.

Still leaning towards UoP because of how great a school it is, gotta decide quick.

One last thing I guess would be if you were wanting to ortho afterwards how would that sway your decision? oh and Kenny yeah it is haha
