  1. Pre-Dental
School 1: Roseman
Pros:
  • Graduate in 3 years - Cost of attendance not toooo high (~450k)
  • Know people personally who are there are seem to enjoy the program
  • closer to home / support system - under 2 hr flight
Cons:
  • Seemingly bad reputation online among dentists and dental students?
  • 3 year program still relatively new, will be graduating first 3 yr class this year
  • Talks of difficulty getting patients (i speak spanish so the patient population won't be an issue for me)
School 2: UDM Detroit Cohort

Pros:
  • seems to have a good reputation for clinical experience / making good general dentists
  • merit scholarship - Cost of attendance brought down to ~435,000
Cons:
  • far from home / support system - 4.5 hr flight
  • did virtual interview, not really sure of the vibes on campus and can't seem to find much online about what student life is really like
Summary: With both having such a similar cost of attendance, the choice comes down to everything outside of that. Anything else I should consider to make this decision? Any input is appreciated 🙂

personal safety is much better in utah than detroit
being closer to support system is a plus too
you graduate one year earlier at roseman...

Where do you get COA for roseman $450k?

Roseman's Tuition and fees are ~$110k a year = $330k. Are you going to spend $120k on living expenses in Utah?

Just posted, so read

Assuming your numbers, the UDM scholarship hinges on whether you would go to UDM vs. Roseman to minimize the difference with COA. In other words, they will find out if you got accepted to Roseman or somewhere closer to where home is to you (vs. Detroit) based on you paying the deposit and getting the scholarship. Obviously you don't get the scholarship if you decide to go to Roseman.

What do you think about class size? The clinics and patient management? Sure, it's a gamble not knowing how the other 3-year graduates do, but I'm certain they will do fine, and thus Roseman won't lose its accreditation. But they should be able to tell you how they felt working in clinic.

Do you see yourself living in or around Utah or in/around Michigan (or Vermont but you said you were Detroit cohort)?
