I'm about a month and a half away from my CA1 year, and still have about $200 in my book alowance for my prelim year program. I'd hate for this to go to waste. The only book i own is "clinical anesthesia procedures of the mass general" and i beleive my anesthesiology program will provide a free copy of miller (baby i think) and a PDA. I wanted to get the "ICU book", but rather wait until 3rd edition comes out in September.
Any suggestions on what to spend my remaining funds on?

The New Barash is good reading! Also, Clinical Anesthesia Morgan & Mikhail.

Don't neglect EBay. Yeah, sounds crazy, but I have landed several excellent book deals from there. I got an in-the-wrapper, brand new Barish for ~$65 + S&H just to name one. Now, don't expect a huge selection, but if you are diligent & watch, you can grab some great deals!

Which is the much talked about "Big Blue"? People seem to mention it a lot, but I'm not sure which author it is.

👍 thanks for the info ya'll
-will probably pick up Barash this week (but not without scouring EBAY first- thanks for the tip Dave)

How much of a stipend do you get from your Anesthesiology program?

Other good things to think about:
Review book: Anesthesiology Review by Ron Faust ($64)
Also think of: Anesthesiology Boards: A Survival Guide by Starr ($60)
Question book: Anesthesia A Comprehensive Review by Hall & Chantigian ($67)
Or spring $160 and get the Atlas of Regional Anesthesia

It is nice to have some nice texts (like Barash,Stoelting's Pharm&Phys/Co-existing disease), but don't forget the expense and if you're anything like me, anything that expensive doesn't get taken to the OR/possibly spilled on/written in).

I really don't think you can go wrong with ANY of these choices. In fact, the only way you could go wrong is not to spend the $$. 👍
