I have just started to prepare for the DAT. I wanted find out if there is a CD ROM by prometric or Sylvan that is helpful in preparing for the DAT. I have discussed this with some actual dental students and they say that there is a CD from Sylvan or Prometric that contains full length exams. Also, would taking a course with Kaplan or Princeton be helpful. I know its a lot of money to take Kaplan or Princeton but if there is a cheaper way out please let me know. Thanks 🙂

Hello, 😀

After reading tons of success stories here about people scoring very well on the DAT, I have never heard of Sylvan or prometric making stuff for the DAT. If you want to know what is best to study here is a poll which will help you determine the best study material for the DAT.

Kaplan is one o the best out there, but not their courses. Save yourself the money and buy the Kaplan blue book. I can give you a copy of the kaplan practice test for Bio. G-chem, and O-chem this is the only good thing that comes out of their courses. I am glad I found this place, I will save myself alot of money stress and heartache. What is in the kaplan book, is what you need to know pretty much, but somethings in bio need to be further explained liked taxonomy and ecology. The rest is great like G-chem and O-chem, math. For the PAT part of the DAT make sure you get Barron’s How to Prepare for the DAT (Blue Book), ONLY FOR PAT. This book is full of errors on the sciences and believe me the last thing you need is to be confused. :scared: If you pretty much memorize terms and fully understand the concepts from the kaplan book you are set, not forgetting to read up on the side for taxonomy and ecology. You can contact me through a PM to set something up about the tests.

I have not taken the DAT, but I am confident that if I follow the role models in this forum I will succeed on the DAT. You can ask anyone in this forum and they will pretty much tell you the same thing. Some have different views on what to use to supplement the bio section of the kaplan book, but other than that they will pretty much tell you get the Kaplan blue book the DAT achiever and topscore and your set. DAT achiever and topscore are basically a bunch of practice tests. If you can get more practice tests the better. You can a free practice test on the Kaplan website and one from the ADA.org website as well.

Also here is an outline of the kaplan blue book's biology section. provided by our friend lifeisgood. http://blog.rodtv.com/misc-stuff/biology.mht

And a Biology study guide provided by our friend parkwod who scored 22 on his DAT. Click on the link below and then scroll down you will see another link to an attachment.

Hope all this helps cause it sure is helping me. 😛

Hey Mel,
I am also preparing for the DAT this summer and planning on taking it in August.

Thanks for the advice! I tried the 1st link you posted but it didn't work... any suggestions?

Thanks!
