Hey All,

I looked through some old threads trying to find suggestions for an online cell bio class, but am not having much luck. I only need the class for my UTK application. I'm really frustrated that UTK doesn't offer it, nor do they offer suggestions on where to go to find one.

I've seen UC Davis, UMinn, CU Denver, and U Oregon mentioned, but can only find a listing for the course at Denver.

It's really tough to find the online class listings for some schools. I don't know why they bury them so well.

Has anyone taken the course recently somewhere?

Weird they didn't give you recommendations! When I called they recommended UMN and some place else. They also said to look for upper division "molecular bio" at my own school and send them the syllabus to OK.

Thanks for the help, y'all. Looks like Minnesota's course would cost me about $2100. Yikes! Couldn't find tuition info from Berkeley, but I'm sure it's bad too. I had no idea it would be so costly. My job will reimburse me, but I can't pay it up front. Now I'm trying frantically to find a cell bio class offered by any of the state schools here in NC (b/c I get my tuition waived for a state school). Haven't found anything yet, which is hard to believe considering how many UNC campuses they have here. (And community colleges for that matter.) Cr^p! Perhaps I am not meant to apply to Tenn. 🙁

And thanks, cowgirla! Glad to be here, but not thrilled about reliving the process!

I'll check for molecular bio too, Fly Racing. Thank you for the tip.

Fayetteville State University has it listed in their online courses, but not available for this semester and nothing's up for the spring. Maybe give them a call?

Thanks, Trilt. I had seen that. I've got their number on a post-it to take to work tomorrow. 👍

I took UMN's. I thought it was fair. Not sure if they offer it in the fall...

Some guy from Fayetteville State called me back today. I had left a msg saying that it appeared from the website that Cell Bio wasn't going to be offered in the Spring, and did anyone know if there were plans to add it onto the schedule. When this guy called back he left me a msg basically saying that the website didn't appear to have Cell Bio listed as a class for the Spring.

Um....yeah.....that's really helpful. Thanks. <sigh...crosses Tennessee off the list. 🙁>

Don't let that deter you. Look into Guelph (I took it there).

Also, they may still let you take a class in the summer. They did my year even though it said they wouldn't. No community colleges in your area with something that works? Send the syllabi in to UTK if you're not sure.

Thanks. I'm going to recheck the community college schedules this weekend just in case there is something that would work, but I don't have high hopes. Luckily my IS school doesn't require it!

I had a HORRIBLE experience with this class through Berkeley online. I wish I hadn't because I really need the class and now have to find somewhere else to take it. The instructor takes 2 weeks to return assignments and expects you not to work on the next assignment until you receive the previous assignment back from her. There is a research paper which is not explained well. The book and the "modules" are great. I loved the material. But the "class" was a logistical nightmare.

That sucks, especially considering the $$ they charge. I'm just going to skip applying to TN this round, and hopefully I won't have to revisit this issue again next year!
