Hello,

I can't seem to figure out how to count the correct numbers of cubes in this figure. I kept getting 18 total cubes.

0 --> 0
1 --> 2
2 --> 2
3 --> 9
4 --> 3
5 --> 2

I guess unless I don't count the hidden cube at the very back, I will get 17 cubes. But I thought we need to assume the invisible cube is there? Please help

The answer on DAT bootcamp is:

0 = 0
1 =1
2 = 2
3 = 7
4 = 5
5 = 2

invisible cubes are there only to support any floating cubes
there's no reason why there should be a cube on the base behind the tallest peak
if it's hard to see, you should try to first construct the image using all the base cubes alone to see if there's any hidden ones

Oh, so as long as we don't see any stacking cubes, we can assume there isn't a cube on the base? I must have gotten lucky for all my previous problems, because I usually get perfect in the cube section. Thank you for your explanation.
