I couldn't figure out which forum to put this post under, but I chose this one since I'm currently pre-osteopathic, however, my chances of getting in are slim right now -- I have a 3.89 GPA, but a 22 MCAT. Consequently, I'm currently banking on a year off. I'm also considering another option though -- I'm thinking of applying to European medical schools. Half of my family lives in Europe, and I love it there, so this isn't really a second resort... just another option. I'm completely uneducated on this idea.. I have no idea what the requirements are, how to apply, what schools to apply to, and if I would be able to come back to the US if I opted to do so. I also don't know if I'm too late to apply for this year

Can anybody offer information on medical school in Europe?? I would REALLY appreciated the help!! Thanks so much!

I don't know about all of Europe, but I have a friend from England and she explained to me how when they enter undergrad there, they do like a combined undergrad/med school program. I believe it is 6 years long. She also said it is very competitive for Americans to get in, so without excellent stats, it's probably pretty steep competition. If they don't give much weight to the MCAT, you might have a shot given that you have family over there and a strong GPA. I would contact the schools. They will be your best source of information.

Well, you have many options, but it also depends on where want to practice medicine.

You can apply to the Caribbean schools, the better ones are Ross and St. George University. Most of their graduates practice in the USA mainly in primary care. These 2 schools' graduates can practice in all 50 states.

European medical schools are an option too, some of them actually cheaper than Us - Caribbean schools. You have to make sure you apply to their ENGLISH program, if you plan to practice in the Us.

There is a website for foreign med schools: ValueMD (Google it). It is similar to this website but for foreign med schools. You find there all the info you need.

If you decide to go abroad you have to be aware of that :
IMG's (intern. med.grad) or FMG's (Foreign med. grad. ) mainly practice in primary care and some hospitals don't like IMG's and of course less chance to work states in Cali, Fl, etc that are more competitive.
There are always exceptions.

Good luck
